Could Iran have a nuke and use it on the opposing naval ships?

If Iran had a nuke that managed to be made without the allies knowing about it could they mount it on a missile and possibly attack our naval fleets with it in the nearby waters? I honestly think Iran's president is a religious fanatic hell bent on starting a holy war and bringing about the coming of mechdi or whatever its called.

Could they have cards up their sleeve we have not thought about yet? Why would they do something like this without having a plan and if they went into this without a plan I fear it will also spark war because the tensions are just to high and people dont want Iran's lunatic leader to get WMD's.

I think USA got it all wrong when they invaded Iraq when they should have toppled Iran's regime?

well why dont u just use that lazer satelite and purge that nuclear silos^^
still iran have nukes but they probably will attack ground objects,cities,usa and/or other countryes helping usa.
but i doubt they will succed since usa will detect all long before that and they will probably send some spec ops to sabotage(they have satelites cant they find a nuclear silo or whatever they want?)
and even if iran launches they will probably engage and detonate the missile before exiting iran(: cmon we live in technology times[:

This is basically the worst case scenario. Iran has a nuke and a supersonic cruise missile from Russia then uses it to sink an American carrier. Worse yet, that they have many, they are mobile and have the range to hit many US ships in the gulf.

Why is this under current events? Was there some information released that proved Iran had nuclear capability? I must have missed the link. If you could be so kind as to provide me the link, that would be great.

There is nothing Russia and or China could do about it.

I seriously doubt Russia or China will go into nuclear war with the US/NATO/UK.

Because it's _very_ hard to sink something like a nimitz-class carrier with conventional cruise missiles, for example.

Hes right, why waste a nuke on a carrier? Iran already has conventional missiles in their arsenal that can sink a carrier, the Sunburn and the Sizzler to name a couple.

If in the long run it was America’s goal to hit Iran (which I think it was) they would need the massive presence and /or the excuse for that presence in the area.

As far as conventional cruse missiles taking out one of the carriers it would take masses of them, and only a handful would get through. IMHO its fairly likely Iran has managed to get hold of a few nukes - Sunburn for one is capable of carrying a nuke warhead. But the smelly stuff really would have to hit the fan for them to use them if they have them at all. Its clear they are vastly out gunned in that area.

Instead, if they have them I think they would be looking at them for research and development of their own weapons in the first instance - in the second instance for more 'terriost' related activities. A suicide nuke bomber would be a lot harder to locate than missile launches - US /UK have very good systems for detect and destroy.

nukes are not really an option. there is no point in using them in a military sense.

especial if both sides have nukes.

i personally think the next time we will see a nuke in action is from a terrorist attack maybe in the UK/US in the next decade.

i don't think Iran even as mental as the press make them out to be is ready to be blasted of the face of the earth.

Its possible they have a nuke or two. ill admit that, but deploying a nuke in your own waters is well...stupid.

Think of the damage to your costal regions. Not to mention the fallout that could easily wash over your country. or how about the problem with irradiating your water tables?

Besides that, if iran thinks their isolated now, think of the political fallout of that situation.

I really don't know if I would say they have nuclear weapons. I mean if there was any proof of that whatsoever Israel would have done something. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell Israel would just sit on the information that Iran has one. They have actually been quite silent, about the whole Iran thing this past week with the whole hostage standoff. I expected a bigger reaction from them. But they are probably silently on high alert for any developments.

Good point!

Mind you Iran would go to any lengths they could not to let Israel know they had nukes.

Also Israel probably secretly wants this thing to go through ASAP (as far as derailing Irans Nuke program) while USA's attention is focused on Iran. Another 9/11 could change Americas priorities.

What I know:
I know that Iran does have a standing military force. I do not think that they would be willing to nuke anything in their own backyard, but would be more than willing to fire a nuke at another country.
I also know that alot of what is going on, is a means to stall for time.
I also know that it is a country ran by a religious authority.
What I do not know or anyone knows:
If Iran already has a nuclear device. There is a good chance that they do not, but they probably have plans on how to make one. They also have probably have the means to drag in other countries to assist them in defense. No China and Russia will not get into a nuke war with the US/Nato/Uk, but would be willing to put the pressure on the US to get us to back down from putting the pressure on Iran.
Iran is in a unique position. I am just hoping that alot of cooler heads will prevail.

Kronos is right, the missiles he mentioned can sink a US carrier with conventional warheads. Putin has been seeding them to Iran and Syria. The Navy has admitted fore several years now that they have no defense against them.

In a real war situation, you'll see massive losses.

That's why there was a report in the Times of London two weeks ago that about a half-dozen top US brass would resign if they got the go order on an attack of Iran. It's just too dangerous. But then both sides are run by madmen.
