Humm, I think Iran should follow US example and start doing their own version of the Geneva convention.

CBC Radio Canada News is reporting that a deal for the 15 Brits in trade for 5 Iranians has been announced! I hope the Iranians don't screw it up somehow.

Next newscast at 2:00AM Eastern (GBT - George Bush Time) here's a windows media audio streaming link to the source that I heard the above deal was made.

origin.www.cbc.ca...

Bizzare - the item wasn't on the 2 O'Clock - instead they had a bit on Blair and that Scotty's remains are going to space. There was no retraction either... I hope the news item comes back and was true ... if not I'll be required to apologize. CBC is usually very reliable, especially the raidio-news service. I promise to follow up.

Yeah, Id hate to have to nuke them over this.
ITs a weak move though, it will encourage further kidnappings.

The Iranians are obliged by international convention to:

1) Make known to the interlopers that they are in Iranian waters

2) Escort them into international waters

3) Lodge a complaint with the interlopers' government

I've heard this before. The bad guys have to obey international laws while the good guys can do what they want with the world. Guantanamo Bay and Lebanon sound familiar?

Exactly the point I would have liked to make! There's that old adage, "Do unto others what you would like them to do to you!" But rules and international conventions do not apply to the West (read US of A and Britain).
You see, the 'King' can do no wrong. Rules and conventions apply only to lesser souls! Brazen double standards!!

That was well brought out Daedalus!

And then, we don't know at this point in time whether the Iranians are lying or the Brits. It's 50-50. Identifying a boundary on water in the visual mode is not the same as doing so on land where one has easily recognizable features to go by.

So what was the necessity of getting that close to an international boundary when the atmosphere is pregnant with hostility? Riding the razor's edge is not a good idea!

That's the best unbiased comment I've heard from a Brit. Way to go! But a trifle harsh on the 'they-have-every-right-to-do-whatever-they-like-with-them line!

Cheers!

My point is that none of that GPS crap matters..
Actually whoever is correct doesn't matter as well.

The only truth is the very 'reality' of the situation:
Iran has 15 british sailors and is not going to give them up easily.
Deal with it the way you like.

Iran will not torture the UK soldiers, they are going to teach the modernized countries invading the middle east that they are better, they will be well fed, treated and pamper, to show who is more civilized.

Yes they will coerce them into writing anything but torture as the magnitude that US has used for prisoners they will not.
