EPA Fines Energy Department $1 Million Over Violations At Hanford Nuclear Site

www.cbsnews.com

(AP) The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday fined the federal Energy Department $1.1 million over violations of an agreement to clean up the Hanford nuclear reservation, the nation's most polluted nuclear site.

The fine involved operations at a landfill that is the primary repository for contaminated soils, debris and other hazardous and radioactive waste from cleanup operations across the site.

After first shutting down operations upon discovery of the failures, the EPA has permitted the landfill to resume operations under strict oversight.

Today, it is the nation's most contaminated nuclear site. Cleanup is expected to top $50 billion and continue through 2035.

The most contaminated!! How sad is it that one gov agency is fining another in regards to the environment and still have the gall to shove their agenda down our throats.

What's that saying? "Those with glass houses, should not throw stones"

Come on! The govt has gotten WAY too big, how could we in any way effect a change to this disappointing scam of the American taxpayer.

"I really am at a loss for words concerning our leaders, someone please let me know if something can be done....

Whats crazy is that they only get a fine of 1 million dollars. That is like pocket change to big business, even better the Energy Department. That is like shaking the had of a bully just after he stole candy from a baby.

What is funny is the $1 million goes from one govt pocket to another, all the while it is our taxpayer money being moved from one account to the next, so really the fine is meaningless.
