Russian Intelligence Reports US Military Buildup near Iran

. . . Russian Intelligence has detected a major build up of U.S. military forces near Iran's border and in the Persian Gulf. "The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both air and ground operations against Iran. That would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost," the official said. The Vice-President of the Academy of Geo-Political Sciences, Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov stated the Pentagon is planning to attack Iran's military infrastructure in the near future.

This is getting worse by the hour. Looks like we might be in the final stages of preparation for all out war. Oh well at least from this news story it looks like the US is not planning to use too many nukes because it seems they are building up a ground force too and surely the US administration wouldn't send all those poor troops into a highly radiated area / near-certain death . . . or would they???

why on earth do you think we would use ANY nukes? i mean really...how many have we used in iraq? bosnia? panama? vietnam? last gulf war? grenada? korea? really...why in gods name would you even think we would nuke them?

the ONLY reason we would nuke them is as a retalitory strike IF we were attacked with WMD's (VX SARIN ANTHRAX or god forbid an iranian nuke)

US policy is that if we are attacked with WMD's we will respond in kind. our only offensive WMD in service are our nukes. we decomissioned our offensive chem and bio programs long ago. (willy pete not withstanding and under current policy we only use napalm to sterilize an area where we had a decon site after a chem bio attack on our people)

so seriously, why would you sensationalize something like this when you know as well as i do that we are not going to nuke anyone unless they throw first.

besides, if everyone is so sure we're ONLY there for the oil...tell me again, why would we contaminate the fields?

on the other hand hell, why not. nuke the whole area so no one can drill or pump oil there for a few hundred years and make sure our great great great grandkids have oil for their SUV's as well.

Your Government has said that all options are on the table numerous times and has tried to justify using "tactical nuclear weapons" to bomb Iran's nuclear sites . . . just to clarify for you, tactical nukes kill people too! They are not small explosions and they throw a hell of a lot of radioactive material into the air creating deadly fallout . . . so when I say the US might nuke Iran this is what I mean . . .A nuke is a nuke and your government is itching to use them again.

And why would you uses them this time? . . . Probably because your country is considering damage limitation. The US knows that if it were to take on Iran without the use of nukes, Iran would be able to severely damage US interests in that region. Iran has a fully functioning army, airforce and navy, and although they may not be the best in the world I have no doubt that they will inflict a high amount of damage to American, Israeli and British forces if attacked.

yes, i know, ive plotted fallout patterns for simulated nuclear strikes, i know exactly what they can do, which is why we wont use them save as retalitory for a WMD attack.

A nuke is a nuke and your government is itching to use them again.

dont much care if its a republican (dont see it happening though) democrat (could happen, by now we have to have pissed god off that much) or independant (we could only hope) but as long as its not Hitlery im good with it.

US plans to strike Iran next month: report

MOSCOW: The US is planning a military strike against Iran early next month and the Pentagon has already compiled a list of possible targets and practiced the operation during recent exercises in the Persian Gulf, according to Russian Intelligence sources.

"Russian intelligence has information that the US Armed Forces stationed in the Persian Gulf have nearly completed preparations for a missile strike against Iranian territory," government-run RIA Novosti on Friday quoted an unnamed security source.

American commanders will be ready to carry out the attack in early April, but it will be up to the US political leadership to decide if and when to attack, the agency's source said noting that American military presence in the region has reached the level of March 2003 when the US invaded Iraq.

A new US carrier battle group has been dispatched to the Gulf. The USS John C Stennis, with a crew of 3,200 and around 80 fixed-wing aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and Superhornet fighter-bombers, eight support ships and four nuclear submarines are heading for the Gulf, where a similar group led by the USS Dwight D Eisenhower has been deployed since December 2006.

The US is also reported to be sending Patriot anti-missile systems to the region.

The 'senior Russian security official' quoted by RIA Novosti, citing military intelligence, claimed that Pentagon could decide to conduct ground operations as well after assessing the damage done to the Iranian forces by its possible missile strikes and analysing the political situation in the country following the attacks.
