Photographs of the moments when the Britons were captured

news.bbc.co.uk

The eight sailors and seven marines, based on HMS Cornwall, were taken at gunpoint in the northern Gulf as they returned after searching a boat.

Iran says they were trespassing in Iranian waters, but the UK has insisted the group were in Iraqi waters under a UN mandate.

Preparations are in place for a news conference at the Ministry of Defence in London, where photographs of the moments when the Britons were captured will be revealed.

Well, this should prove interesting...my question is: Who will verify these photographs, who will make certain that they are not in some way manipulated, i.e. taken at a different time or the image directly altered with some sophisticated piece of software? My question is: Can we consider these photographs that are to be unveiled proof?

Dear BBC,

Regarding your forthcoming report.

Will there be any buildings in the background..one's that officially don't exist?

Knowing the BBC they will have a live feed of the captured sailors, yet still insist they dont know where they are.

Speaking of the BBC & the missing sailors, I must say it was convenient for them to provide the emotional human touch to sway everybodies emotions in the shape of an interview with the only female sailor.

Apparently filmed days before the capture....What a stroke of luck.

The Royal Navy says satellite data proves 15 personnel being held in Iran were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters when they were seized.

---

Officials say GPS data shows the personnel were in Iraqi waters

*UK government says merchant vessel boarded by crew from HMS Cornwall was 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi territorial waters
*HMS Cornwall was south-east of merchant ship, inside Iraqi waters
*Iranian government initially told UK that merchant vessel was at a point still within Iraqi waters
*After UK pointed this out, Iran provided alternative position, within Iranian waters

What is this "evidence" you speak of?

Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman said the evidence presented by the MoD was "difficult to dispute".

The Royal Navy says satellite data proves 15 personnel being held in Iran were 1.7 nautical miles inside Iraqi waters when they were seized.

I guess I'll take your word for it...

Nevertheless, true i wasn't there, I don't have the transcripts of the press conference. But if this is actually all they revealed, imo, it isn't all that convincing. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily a fan of the Iranian government and I find the rhetoric of its "president" simply unacceptable. Does this mean that I will allow someone to abuse this sympathy by giving him/her/it the benefit of the doubt? No.

@spencer

Not yet, I'm simply saying they need to produce actual evidence. Imo it would be best to have claims corroborated by third parties.

@noyhcat,

Tell me something, why is it, Iran first tried to say they were @ a location, that was actually inside the Iraq Territorial Waters, then they changes it to another location....

Something very suspicious, about this......

@spencer,

CNN news story
(visit the link for the full news article)

Britain says Iran's detention of the eight Royal Navy sailors and seven Royal Marines, who were conducting a routine inspection of a merchant vessel at the northern end of the Persian Gulf, is illegal and is demanding their release.

Iran insists they were inside its territorial waters and, according to Style, provided a map with coordinates that prove the Brits were out of bound on Saturday.

However, those points provided were still within Iraqi territorial waters, Style said.

Upon pointing that out Sunday through diplomatic contacts "they provided a second set of coordinates" on Monday that were "in Iranian waters over two nautical miles" from the global position shown by the HMS Cornwall and confirmed by the merchant vessel the British personnel boarded.

If this is true then it is cause for suspicion. If an Iranian government representative were to publicly answer to a direct question as to why they had given a second set of coordinates and give a reason -any reason- then I will be very inclined to believe the British version of the incident.

They are not too good with Google Earth...

Here's another link with this info:

The foreign secretary later announced that all official business with Iran had been suspended until the crisis was resolved.

Using the thumb screws now.

The boat is in the same place (apparently) as when the event occurred, and the picture is recent. There is no picture of the moments the service men were captured.

If the prisoners were taken from the first point Iran gave, then there is no doubt that Iran is up to something. No way would GPS be off by that much! However, it is possible that we are recieving the wrong information from the media. But if our media was lying, why would they release the female prisoner?

Someone else to verify the GPS maybe? If Iran can get it wrong, so can we, and i wouldn't put it past our leaders to be frank, who are continously lying to our faces about, oh you know, everything.

Anything for the west to be wrong lol.. or for the government to be in a cover up. How about the crazy guy in Iran, he couldn't possibly make this up right?

It time to think about the 15 people who were taken illegally and figure out how to get them back safely and be pissed off about it!!

You don't have to agree with the Iraq war to agree That its a bunch of BS these soldiers were taken. The President of IRAN is a Nut job, no getting around it.

I for one say a prayer for the people taken and hope we have the courage to not stand for such an outrage. IMHO
