EDIT: Thanks to the mod who told me about the three paragraph quotation limit, and here's my opinion about this article:

This is pretty exciting, since the former Gov Symington originally held a press conference ridiculing the Phoenix Lights, as you can see in the excellent documentary Out Of The Blue (www.outofthebluemovie.com) To have the Gov at the time actually admit that he SAW the lights himself and considered them inexplicable is a very interesting new development. Leslie Kean of freedomofinfo.org is to be commended for her incredible work on this subject, over the years.

Phoenix Daily Courier Story: /yqqnrh

Symington confirms he saw UFO 10 years ago

By LESLIE KEAN
Special to the Courier

Ten years after the "Phoenix Lights" UFO incident, former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington, III, now says he saw an unidentified object that night, even though he originally did not say so publicly.

"It was enormous and inexplicable," he said in an exclusive interview from Phoenix. "Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too."

On March 13, 1997, during Symington's second term as governor, thousands saw a vast triangular and V-shaped object, gliding slowly and silently across the Arizona sky. Witnesses throughout the state estimated that the eerie, lighted objects were bigger than many football fields, as much as a mile long.

He was the one that pulled that ET costume joke and now he's claiming to have actually seen a massive UFO?

He's part of the problem.

edit:

Just realized he was convicted of some type of fraud and later pardoned by former President Clinton.

Can this man's word even be trusted? Being a known criminal? I don't see why he would even bother making this statement now.

He's recanting his story. Would it be better if he just maintained his lie and never admitted he saw the event himself?

And in what way do you think going public, with the attendant media ridicule he inherently opens himself up to will improve his image, whether he was convicted of some kind of crime or not?

Throwing out his testimony on that basis is absurd. I'm glad that investigative journalist Leslie Kean does not share your assessment of the value of this story.

you say Fife Symington 'admits' to seeing the 'Phoenix Lights'

i say he 'claims' to have seen 'it'...
most likely there's a political or social need to get more of the
face-time and name out there...

or maybe Fife was actually working at the office late that night
& did look out the window

Gosh, you're right, that makes a lot of sense. Attaching himself to the UFO subject will clearly advance his political career and win him many new friends in the media and upper-echelon social circles. It's a cynical maneuver to raise his waning profile!

Why didn't Leslie Kean, one of the very few credible investigative journalists to actually break UFO-related stories in the mainstream press in recent years, see the obvious?

What a dupe she is!

Here is another of Leslie's excellent articles which was published in the Boston Globe and subsequently re-published world-wide:

She's not exactly a gullible idiot, and she's not likely to carry this story forward without having satisfied herself that there IS a story in it.

Is this not a testament to the idea that politicians do not speak out because of the possible effects this has on the individual image??
He goes from total mockery to being critical of the very govmnt he was a part of. Probably made fun of it out of neccessity.
