I just stumbled on this article about the quartz crystal skull whose authenticity is challenged, I had never heard of this skull before and wondered what our ATS members' take is on this piece.

The Crystal Skulls: An Ancient Mystery

According to common historical accounts, the "Skull of Denstiny" was found in 1927 by the English explorer Fredrik A Mitchell-Hedges among Mayan ruins, in Lubaantun. Other voices declare that the investigator bought the piece in a Sothebys auction that took place in London in the year 1943.

Whatever the case, the crystal rock skull is cut and polished so perfectly that it appears to be an invaluable work of art. However, to be certain of the first hypothesis (that the skull is Mayan in origin) we are faced with a series of penetrating questions.

The Skull of Destiny is, in a certain sense, a technical impossibility. With a weight of around 5kg (11 lbs) and being a perfect replica of a female skull, it has a finish that would have been impossible to achieve without relative modern methods, according to scientists; methods that, of course, the Mayan culture is not known to have possessed.

Could it be real? Is it just a publicity stunt created by the explorer?

The story goes that there are 13 crystal skulls that hold information about our past and future, and that when the world needs them the most, all 13 will be found and will be brought together.

The first Mitchell-Hedges skull was tested by hewllit packard (I believe, I could be wrong) because they had the best technology for crystals. Crystals sort of hold information and data like computers. The scientists who experimented on the skull stated that it shouldn't even exist beccause of the thousands of years that it would take to sculpt and polish the skulls. The skull had no visible tool marks on it.

I believe that to date, only 5 have been found. Others have been brought forward, but were deemed hoaxes.

This is an interesting story. I hope more information is brought forward on this topic.

First of all, I have read the links, hence why I said I hope more information is brought up on this subject. Though, there are a few threads going on about this topic, the only information that is available is the same info that has been distributed over the past 40 years or so and no new info has been brought to light recently.

It would be helpful to a lot of people on the site if you would focus your time on your thoughts on different subjects instead of trying to bash everyone elses ideas or thoughts.

Thank you.

As Marduk pointed out, there's already a thread about this (with a nifty picture to boot!).

Please continue the conversation here

Thanks!
