Space Probe Spots Vast Seas on Saturn's Moon Titan

www.foxnews.com

LOS ANGELES — Scientists have discovered what appear to be sea-size bodies of liquid, probably methane or ethane, on the surface of Saturn's largest moon, including one about as big as Montana.

The discovery by the international Cassini spacecraft was welcomed by researchers, who have long theorized that Titan possessed hydrocarbon seas because of methane and other organic compounds in its thick, largely nitrogen atmosphere.

Until now, Cassini had spotted only clusters of small lakes on the planet-size moon.

It looks like Cassini has taken some beatiful shots of "Montana-sized" lakes of either methane or ethane. This is great news and hopefully mankind will be able to take advantage of these resources in about a hundred years.

The more we know about our solar system the better we will be able to use it's resources. Looks like another win for Cassini so congrats to NASA and JPL!

Heh... FOXNews must be slow on the space front. This was published on Physorg and CNN a cpl days ago and is already posted in the Space forum.

Still a fascinating observation. I wonder if the Titanians like to skinny dip.
