Beautiful piccy of a Rotty, but why oh why, do so many people think that Rotties are used as war dogs?
I am assuming that that was your intention, because of their reputation perhaps? Forgive me if I am wrong.
I owned two Rotties and both were so gentle and comical dogs which does of course, belie the fact that they could be fearsome protectors of both property and their owners. The Romans used them for their strength and ability to pull small carts, as did the Germans during WWII.
Many forces use differing breeds according to their needs. We Brits have always used dogs both for hunting, guarding and for herding cattle and sheep.
I have never heard of British wardogs, although there were plenty of breeds at Melton Mowbray where all military dogs in the UK are trained.

One thing you have to remember is that in a wartime situation the likelihood of human loss of life is expected. It's not pleasant, but it just goes with nature of the beast. The military uses animals in certain instances to help minimize the loss of life(i.e. finding enemy divers, finding bombs, etc..). It is unfortunate when an animal is injured or killed, but if the alternative is human loss of life, I have to pick the lesser evil.

armor clad rhinos?
when did that happen?!!
It is unsubstantiated that rhinoceros were used for war functions. Analyzing Albrecht Dürer's famous 1515 woodcut, it is possible that the liberties taken with the rhino's design were in fact designs for a suit of armor created for the rhinoceros's fight against an elephant in Portugal.[3] However, rhinos' apparent "thick" or "plated" skin is actually very sensitive and the animals have poor eyesight, limiting their ability to run in any particular direction. Their tendency to charge anything within 10 feet would make them impractical for domestication.
