I have been using seti@home since 2000, and activly since I joined ATS, but something #ed up my seti client. I will download it again as soon as I can rid my computer of all the # it's infected with.

I just joined the ATS team (again).
How long does it take to complete 1 data unit (btw is that a WU, or is that something else?)

I'm on 9% in 55 minutes...

Many thanx Spica - I'm sure you'll find SETI@home fascinating - and you *never* know - it could be *you* that finds ET?!!

Welcome to the ATS SETI@home team!!

It all depends on the speed of your computer.
Download setispy and it will give you your cpu performance compared to other computers plus team stats, user stats, returned signals and other stuff.

Hi Zion!!

Many thanx for re-installing SETI@home - and welcome (again!) to the team!!

As for "how long" it takes to process a WU depends (mainly) - but not exclusively - on the machine you use. I have two P4 machines - a 2Ghz with 256 MbRAM and a 2.6Ghz with 512 MbRAM. Both use WinXP as the OS and run the client (as opposed to the Command line version).

On average, the 2Ghz machine takes around 5.5 - 6 hours to process 1 WU, whilst the 2.6 Ghz takes around 4 hours to work 1 WU. When I *first* started SETI@home I had a P3 233Mhz machine only (with 128 MbRAM) and that took about 35 hours for 1 WU. In all cases, I've had SETI@home running continuously rather than as a screensaver.

Sometimes, however, you'll find that WU's can be completed *much* faster (say, because the data is corrupted when it was collected by, perhaps, terrestrial interference) or longer, if the signals are very complex. So, all you can do - really - is to just let the machie do it's own thing and it will let you know *when* it needs to connect!!

I hope that helps Zion - many thanx again!!

I have a P4 2,4 GHz with 512 RAM

I was doing some work while Seti was running, so that's why it's a bit slower than usual.
It also runs continuously on my machine.
It's usually just on because I'm downloading, so why not run Seti in the background?!!

One more question, is it also possible to subscribe to 2 teams, or can I only join 1?
I also want to join either the "Dutch Power Cows", that team is on the 25th place of all teams, or "SETI@Netherlands" which is on the 4th place

Hi Zion!!

Hmm - I dont know if you can join more than one team, I've never tried - ATS SETI@home will do me!!

Seriously, perhaps you could have two SETI@home accounts (log on as a new user with a different email address) and work them alternatively ie only have 1 instance of SETI@home running at a time and "switch" between both teams...?

Sorry I can't be of any practical help here - perhaps somebody else can say if they are doing this please??

I've already moved up like 75 spots or so, lol

I let Seti run all the time, it doesnt seem to slow down my computer at all, I don't even notice a difference, pretty cool if I do say so.
