A little boy asked me about God today.

He asked me why God let so many famine stricken children in poor countries die?

How would you answer this little boy?

Give him the standard answer:

"God works in mysterious ways."

You don't. His mind is too innocent. Do not poison it.
Heelstone's response is a good idea.

Tell him that God doesn't exist and everything he perceives is a figment of his imagination!

Take a look at most of these famines. 99% occur in places where there are civil wars or some sort of internal strife that makes the situation spiral out of control.
Ethiopia in the 80s was one of the worst famines ever and it needn't have happened. But the civil war meant that the population was forced into areas where there was no food and the government was too busy spending money fighting it's enemy to pay for feeding them.

Famines might be caused by poor harvests and bad weather but the people die because of other men. Not because of God.

What if he asked me, why God made bad weather, or a poor harvest?

There you go....what a way to influence the young minds of tommorrow.

I guess that's how the Hitlers and Osama's are created
through advice like this. And people want to know why we live in a tyrant stricken world.

God has given us free will and look what we have done to our earth. There is good and evil and we can choose to be good and make a difference for God, represent him here on earth. Our world is what we make of it.

Bad weather could probably be blamed on God. But lack of water isn't always the cause. Poor planning also plays a large part in a famine. In underdeveloped countries the people don't always prepare for a dry season even though they know from experience that it is coming.
But poor harvests are down to man. After all, man chooses the type of crop, plants it, cares for it and reaps it.
Many people died in the Irish Potato Famine because of the poor choice to plant potatoes as the only crop. If they hadn't put their faith in one food source the people wouldn't have died.

You can tell the boy that no one dies really. God just takes their souls home for a while and then brings them back and puts them into rich people's bodies, and the rich people's souls get put into poor people's bodies to find out what a bad life is like.

yeah, just explain to him that god isnt really real. explain to him what causes famine. i think its about time we stopped lying to the little children.

i think the worst way would be to make an excuse for God. from my experience, its excuse after excuse of utter BS thats led me to finally see what christianity really is.

make the boy study geography, 3 sciences and history then he can work it out for himself.

Even my relatives say that. But IMO that is the worst explanation I have ever heard.

When someone says that it means, just don't think about... Stop thinking.

God doesn't let bad things happen. People do.
