I searched for a while with multiple keywords that I knew where in the title and in the thread. No luck. I ended up referencing without a link. To bad since they were common topics but not close enough to just add to.

What terms were you using for your search?

Aboriginals, sued, uk. A couple combinations of those. I also tried switching between ats, bts, pts. I wish I remembered how I found it the first time. I just got excited to start a thread on the Hawaiian group.

Museum as well.

Come on People!!!!

BEFORE YOU POST use the search to make sure it's not already posted,

One way of Positive Reinforcement
would be to award points for clicking the "search"

i'm sure the forum has that capability...
as it already tracks & records one's navigation thru the ADs & the Threads in the forum.

solution:
bright shiny rewards, and ego stroking (as in points),
is one way to 'encourage' the masses

JacKatMtn,
Thanks, that is the thread. I had know idea it was that old. That had to be the variable that was throwing my search off.

Search is temporarily disabled.

Is this permanent, or really just temporary - as I used the "Advanced Search" feature on a daily basis, specifically because of the date (time frame) functionality, which Google Search doesn't offer...?

I think the boolean search will be back sometime soon, but don't quote me on that...

Just tried to search for: BEST THREADS 2006

Ended my search without finding the correct thread.
Why is the ATS search so bad? Can anything be done to fix it without applying for numerous patents on website search algorithms?

Sometimes I will find a thread easily, but other times, its impossible, so this would explain the duplicate threads.

Also sometimes duplicate threads aren't that bad. Think of the show "Unsolved Mysteries". Some of the shows content is SOLVED because of the re-airing of the material to many NEW people that have not seen the material when it first came to light.

Threads that are duplicate on the same day however are bad and I believe the mods are on top of it before the thread gets too far.

I'll be one of the first to admit, the Boolean search is not very useful
unless you are very, very, very exact in your search criteria, but recently
it's becoming absurd, I mean I've seen multiple threads (most of which
are now closed) where the first thread on the subject was near the top of
the section list, I mean come on, it does'nt take that long to check the
current page of a section for a topic.

Not aimed at anyone particular, just sort of ranting.

Anyways, personally I check all the relevant sections for a topic before
I post a thread on something.

I dunno, I just posted a thread, here, after using the Google search to see if it had been posted already. I searched for "ball of fire, India". I got no hits, so I posted the thread. Then I searched again, with the same keywords, words I used in the thread title, and guess what? I didn't get a hit on my thread. Is it me being dumb?

Bump, after getting three news threads on the same antigravity/levitation story today.

It's obvious people are not looking before posting.
