LONDON, (AFP) - Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was captured by US troops only after he had been taken prisoner by Kurdish forces, drugged and abandoned ready for American soldiers to recover him, a British Sunday newspaper said.

Saddam came into the hands of the Kurdish Patriotic Front after being betrayed to the group by a member of the al-Jabour tribe, whose daughter had been raped by Saddam's son Uday, leading to a blood feud, reported the Sunday Express, which quoted an unnamed senior British military intelligence officer.

Saddam did look kind of funny in the videos. Also the fact that he didn't fight back is uncharacteristic of someone like him. His daughter thinks he was drugged also, so who knows.

It makes sense. And it wouldn't necessarily make the US look bad if they didn't constantly feel the need to make up stories...like that Air Force One Thanksgiving encounter with a passenger flight THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

Why can't the Bush PR machine just tell the truth when it just doesn't matter??? It's all about the "place in history" even a contrived one.

well bullies are well known to be cowards when push comes to shove. he was fine playing the role of bully until someone stuck an automatic rifle in his face, then not surprisingly, went without a whimper.

its not as uncharacteristic as you think. dont believe the BS he spewed about fighting to to death and all that crap.

his daughter obviously doesnt realize that for all the talking he did thats all he did, talk.

but i'm sure everyone will now believe this latest theory and bash bush and the USA again.

so go for it folks! bash bash bash bash bash! insult and name call and spin this anyway you like. fact remains we still have him and he wont be running iraq ever again.

amazing how so many are more worried about him than all the people who died under his rule. i wonder how long he would have lasted had everyone shown the same concern for his people???

Prank,

It's genuine concern. I don't care how we get the job done. I just want it done. But when we keep making up stories.... God we look like idiots.

Do you believe the Pentagon or Jessica Lynch for example? Come on... we make stuff up. That's to be expected, all governments do to a point. But the Bush people don't even do it well... they think we're THAT stupid.

well answer this, do you believe that those you dont like are the only ones making up stories? be honest.

i dont believe anythign at face value. i acknowledge whatever article or story i read but i dont pass out right judgement on it like most on this board. many on this board are too wquick to pick up on a story and then proceed to join the bashing because it agrees or coincides with their hatred.

i find it amazing how these kurds never killed him considering what he did to them time after time. am i to believe they only doped him up and turned him over to us? here's something to chew on for you...the people from that region are BIG on vengence, namely, getting their pound of flesh themselves, not letting someone else do it for them. basically they prefer to lynch people like saddam... maybe with a lesser criminal they wouldnt do this to but for someone like saddam? i'd be genuinely surprised if they did have him then only doped him up and turned him over to us.

do i believe jessica lynch? i believe the pentagon used her as a PR tool to draw support for our troops. i think our military put her in a position that she and those in her unit should not have been in the first place. WTF puts non combat military personnel in a combat zone that hasnt been secured let alone checked for unfriendlies? why didnt they have at least a SERIOUSLY armed escort?

so no i dont believe jessica lynch or the pentagon but they arent the only ones i doubt. i doubt everyone and everything until i can gather more information to establish a more well informed opinion. something some on here do not do, they see whatever fits their way of thinking and then latch onto it like a teet.

i have news for you....ALL presidents have done it, all politicians have done it, everyone in the government has done it but all i see is impeach bush, vote out bush but nothing much gets said about the rest of them! he's only one person, a drop in the bucket of BS and propaganda being fed to us from them. bush is an insignificant problem compared to the whole sum that most people dont see or want to see.

Not at all. Bagdahd Bob, Rumsfeld and Ted Kennedy (for example) all drink from the same BS bottle.

I know what you're saying (and good points on the Kurds) but I just keep hearing this administration keep getting caught in little white lies that make no sense to me.

Do you know the Air Force One Thanksgiving story? ( vancouver.indymedia.org... ) Bush and Rice told some tale (for laughs obviously) about almost getting busted on their covert trip when spotted by a commercial flight that exchanged radio contact. The story was for laughs, to add heat, etc... but no source can be identified (and transatlantic commercial flights aren't hard to locate). Just silly stuff... the kind of stuff Fox News eats up and plays to. Cowboy stories. Telling us what we want to hear.

Rubs me wrong, and makes me think they'll lie about anything. I KNOW Clinton lied, and what he lied about. With Bush I feel I have NO IDEA.

But I believe there is more to the Saddam story than we have been told.

The Kurds captured Saddam for a negotiated deal?
Hmmm, lets think on this....is it plausiable? Sure, anything is possible....
Personally, after what Saddam did to the Kurds, "capture" seems so romantic....actually, the kurds would have probably killed him. Saddam's balls would be hanging on a neck chain and his head would be on a pole.....
And all this information from a 'tabloid' newspaper?
Hmmm....how many times has this 'tabloid' been sued for spouting nonsense and disinformation?

Would the captors leave Saddam with a pistol and two AK-47's?
Would the captors leave Saddam with 750,000$ dollars?
Would the captors have actually left Saddam in one piece?

Sounds like another one of those 'conspiracy' theories....seems there has been a load of them here lately since Saddam's capture:

This story is crap.
The Kurds would have killed Saddam rather than hand him over after all the atrocities he has committed against their people. The persecution and murder they suffered by his regime was even worse than that which the Shias endured.
Saddam is ONLY still alive because the US got to him first.

As for looking drugged? What did you expect a man who has been living in a hole in the ground, hiding from the World's biggest superpower to look like?
