Al Neuharth: Bush Is Worst President of All-Time

Source Link: www.editorandpublisher.com

Last year, Neuharth, a World War II hero who has met every president since Eisenhower, listed his five worst as Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan, Ulysses Grant, Herbert Hoover and Richard Nixon. "It's very unlikely Bush can crack that list," Neuharth wrote.

Now he admits: "I was wrong. This is my mea culpa. Not only has Bush cracked that list, but he is planted firmly at the top." By top, of course, he means bottom.

Bush is no saint, and has made many mistakes. But has any of these Bush-bashing threads actually said anything new in the last couple of years? Can't we rightfully say, "Nothing new to see here. Time to move along"?

Ideas for ATS: create a thread category just for Bush bashing threads, and have mods move all of these threads there whenever someone starts a new one. Also, create a new emoticon just for Bush bashing that would be placed at the top of the screen with the other icons when you post. That way we could see ahead of time what the thread and/or post was about.

Well if he would actually do something GOOD for a change - not just for the people in Iraq or Afganistan (because I can only see further Chaos in the region of Middle East), but also for the people at Home (remember Katrina?), then I think there would not be so many Bush-Bash-News. But hey do not blame the mesenger, I just quoted the news which is published in American newspapers. I think there is always something new to see here - and I wonder where are the people who shall demand this president to be Impeached like Clinton was over some blow-job and some fake reports about White Water Scandal.

Hey - I agree with you here! But you should have remembered that earlier, at least at the time when he we re-elected so we could have four years of filling this thread category with articles and news; now we just have one year left. But I like your idea.

centurion, always there to support a big criminal, if you would have been in Germany in the 30s, you would have supported Hitler, I'm sure of that.

And again, it's not ``Bush-bashing`` it's to see the crimes of the Bush administration in everyone in it. Rize, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gates, Rove, Libby... all those criminals.

But still, you still believe that the Patriot Act, the military comission act, the increase in army budget, the increase in Iraq troops, the lies about Iraq, the cover-up of 9/11, the wiretapping, the constant fear-mongering propaganda, the constant lies and hate for the constitution is matter of supporting this administration.

You're the minority who have their head in the sand since september 2001. So please wake up and admit your mistakes. And don't start to say that Gingrich is a good candidate or Hillary is a damn liberal because it's not relevant, both parties are corrupt and I don't support any of them.

Sorry but I can't stand fascists/neo-cons. They disgust me at the highest point for their lack of human caracteristics like love and respect of life.

You know what? I am not a big fan of Bush, but, excluding the Iraq fiasco, he hasn't been bad.

Inflation is almost nil

Defecit has been reduced 50%

Wall Street is having all time highs

There hasn't been another terrorist attack on U.S soil since 9/11...

Umm, I don't know where people come to the conclusion that "Bush is the worst president ever," but it's an obviously faulty assumption.

$100 in 2001 was worth $113 in 2006.

data.bls.gov...

%13 inflation in those years.

Defecit has been reduced 50%

Now it's being reduced. But that's since 2003

www.uuforum.org...

Wall Street is having all time highs

Which is still below 2000 numbers when it's inflation adjusted.

www.cbpp.org...

There hasn't been another terrorist attack on U.S soil since 9/11...

That is true.

So,Bandit, am I supposed to deduct that "Bush is the worst president ever," from what you said...
Nah, it doesn't add up.

Don't put words in my mouth. I was just showing that the arguments you gave are not based on the facts.

Sorry, but that's a stupid assumption considering that the Bush administration MADE IT.

And you forget the destruction of Bill Of Rights and Constitution, and you'll say that protects you from terrorists, YEAH RIGHT.

Ummm, the actual rate has hovered around the 3%mark for most of the decade. That is an acceptable rate. You don't want hyperinflation or stagflation. Don't make it sound as is the inflation rate is 13% per year, that is plainly misleading.

I do not put words in your mouth, supporting Bush is supporting what he did, including destroying the constitution and bill of rights and support every breach of law he made. (over 700)

And yes, you said you support everything Bush have made except the Iraq war.

You know what? I am not a big fan of Bush, but, excluding the Iraq fiasco, he hasn't been bad.

So if you don't support everything he destroyed about the constitution and bill of rights, say it.

I didn't word it out good. I had the (5) typed, but I guess I deleted it. It's about 3% per year... True.. About 13% over those 5 years.

btw. I'm feeling the consequences of that because the currency of my country is tied to the dollar.

And besides.. No president has that much power over inflation. The Federal Reserve has the direct power over it. Based on the amount of money (credits) they create out of thin air each year.

That would IMO make the majority of U.S. presidents since Woodrow Wilson great presidents if you put it that way, elevatedone.

One could easily argue that the July 2000 numbers were actually overvalued in stock price as well. That would explain much of the hard crash landing we had over the next few years. Basically, a bubble burst that was not based on or could be supported by the numbers that existed at the time.

People have short memory spans when it comes to things like this. Just for a tech stock example, Yahoo stock almost tripled in price in the span of a year and people thought that normal, it wasn't. They actually expected it to triple again.

Your currency has always felt consequences if it has been tied to the dollar, inflation and global exchange rates have always been around. I miss the days that $1 US bought almost $1.50 Canadian. Things change. You can't have your blame of Bush both ways. First you make it sound as if he is responsible for the inflation, then you state that he has no power over it. Which is it?

Same can be said of the markets, yet Clinton gets credit for the Bull Market of the 90's, even though he didn't do much either way to help or hurt the market.
