It seems that the Iraq population, is growing in it's sentiment against the current situations...

www.islamonline.net... 03/12/article_04.shtml
Slightly aged article but still relevent I feel...

Almost all Iraqis interviewed for this article expressed a mixture of dismay, disgust and anger at the US mishandling of Iraqi affairs. They claim that they are glad that the Baathist regime has been dislodged but wonder why Iraqi civil society is marginalized in the reconstruction and re-politicization of Iraq. Talk of civil war is now common among Iraqis sipping tea in Baghdad teahouses or those who are professors in Europe and North America.

I have Very bad vibes indeed. Things look ominous, as if a civil war is imminent, said Fadi Wazan, an Iraqi businessman in Boston, Massachusetts.

Of course this comes as no real suprise, as most populations would feel this way, under the control of one dictator, and then a foreign government. The average Iraqi civilian has to wonder and be angered over the lack of sovereign control and citizen control, before and after the war.

Not to discredit what your saying but look at the source. While I am sure not all Iraqis are happy to have Americans around, there are alot who do want them there. Civil war in Iraq is possible, but it wont be over American occupation.

Your source is totally anit-american. They have a side note about American Hegemony for christ sakes.

I seriously doubt that a Civil War will break out in Iraq. The iraqi people are not in any position to wage any kind of organized fighting

As to the question of civil war in Iraq: it is highly possible. If you go back in history and start with the Sykes-Picot agreement, you will see that Iraq's problems flow from there. The west came in and carved up Mesopotamia with little or no regard for the different tribes and regions. (Big surprise. As usual projecting that old white guy mentality on a culture completely removed from the west.) If they had had an ounce of sense, they would've created three Iraqs. A Kurdish state, a Sunni state and a shiite state. But alas, the west failed to grasp the Arab situation/mindset.

It will be no surprise if the country erupts into civil war. It's been a long time coming. I just pray to God our troops don't get caught up in that. It would be deadly.

Smirkley, it would appear that your words have been quite prophetic. The one group (Shia) the US felt would be most accepting of regime change are now all jocking for position in the new Iraq. You figure the US had to expect that the SUnnis who had the most to lose would be the most hostile, but the Shias that's another story. My heart goes out to your average Joe Iraqi after the US leaves and these two sects have no one but each other to fight with.
