I know that this is probably old news to everyone else but I still find it quite unique...If they can do this with a paint brush imagine what militaries can do...

What an amazing find!!!

You get a vote from me for that one.

Through cold techs we find new ways of being creative and expressing ourselves in unique ways.

I would be very interested to see how this tech eventually surfaces in the public domain.

I also found this interesting vid in the same site.

Multi-Touch -

All the best,

you know i wish they would come out with something that you can dream the picture. For instance you know how your dreams are very colorful sometimes, i just wish there was a way to say snap a picture of it. heck it would even be cool to close your eyes and draw with your mind. its possible the advancements with brain technology in the past few years has been amazing.

+1 on the dream-paint idea...I have a great imagination and can come up with many great ideas... but I suck at drawing and really can't put it down to paper or screen...

as for the OT... that brush is awesome... I so want one~ any idea how it works?? is it fibreoptic fibres(for the brush hairs) with cameras and a recorder of some kind??

WOW! that is so cool! i love the smudging with the touch screen! strange how that impresses me more than the photo/video virtual paintbrush

No doubt about it. The 3d paintbrush is a fake.

why do you think that...how did they make that a fake and what proof do you have?

I agree... why would it be fake? My guess is several optical devices, with fibreoptics to capture the image (the fibreoptics being the brush hairs)... though it may be a camera, as if you looked, they pushed fairly heavily into the brush each time, perhaps to clear away brush hairs for a camera?

a simple gyroscope setup (kinda like the tilt function in the ps3's controllers) to determine the brush's angle (it's not really 3D - it just rotates the image) and the touchscreen to determine where the brush is on the screen.. info from the camera is sent via bluetooth to the cpu, and viola! paint!

its not a fake....i thought it was at first too. But at the end of the clip, it says MIT and the name of a scientist there. So i checked it out:

here is the main page for the brush:

I/O Brush

here are other projects she is working on

Kimiko Ryokai At MIT

as you can see from here, there are lots of projects that are simply amazing

and here is the home page of Kimiko Ryokai;

I dont understand why he/she thinks that it is a fake....I almost thought it was at first but then realized how far we came in technology and discarded that idea immediately

That makes no sense, I don't see how this could be fake or even improbable. There's a camera on the end of the brush that records and then transfers what it recorded on to the computer screen you move it across. It really isn't anything new .. it's just about as fascinating as Eyetoys, same concept.
