After thinking about an ATS recomends area it would be too much work and would cause distraction and problems, it wouldnt be such a good idea and probably should be avoided.

Try out prepaid: Not the best bang for yur buck, but no contract. Buy the minutes you need. All the major cell carriers have a prepaid phone these days, you choose which brand, but from what you said above, prepaid seems your way to go.
