I don't care what anyone gives as the official explanation, the true angle here is a secret "sex in space" experiment that ended up being emotional for the woman and scientific for the man.

Maybe on the "vomit comet" practice flights. Probably more just a regular romance-at-work kind of thing, setting aside my not-so-well-thought-out initial theory.
