2007 Is shaping up to be quite a year of diversity for the US, The next president, could possibly be a woman, or a coloured man, two firsts!

I am Canadian, but I do understand the US political system, and I understand how the US effects the global community, especially their Canadian neighbors.

Now, onto the Superbowl link. I was talking to one of my friends, and he is a football buff he had mentioned to me that not only, is this, 41st superbowl the first superbowl a black coach will be in, its the first one TWO black coaches will be in, so that means no matter what, a black coach will win, for the first time in history, the Superbowl.

I have done some research, and according to the Neilson ratings, on average the superbowl is watched by 80 to 90 million americans at any given moment, now consider that the entire US population is at 300 million, that is nearly 1/3 of the US!

I think that the situation with the coaches, and the fact that a coloured man is running for President, needs to be shown attention. Sure it could just be a diversity coincidence, but then again most things that are controlled by the "real leaders of the US" (call them whatever you want) appear to be coincidences, with so much depth and planning that it would be almost impossible to relate them without pure speculation.

I believe that since a black coach will win, they news and the winning coach will make quite a deal of the history being made, and it will show alot of US citizens, (90 million) that a black person is capable of leadership, where a white person has historically only lead.. hmm, much like the Presidents.....

They must be getting the american people ready for a change in history.

let me know what you think, good or bad!

P.S. If I was American, and I could vote, I would vote for Obama, because he shows alot of charisma and character that hasen't been seen for a long time. And he does seem like he would make a positive change to the US and the world.

See now I don't like all this big deal about a black coach in the superbowl. I can understand how a president is a big deal, but why a coach? Anyways I will try and keep on topic. If a sport can change peoples view on another race then that just shows how stupid the whole thing is. I don't think hick southerners are gonna change their views to support a black man to be the most powerful man in the world, based on football. But then again it would make idiotic sense...

I just don't get the connection at all... So, we'll have the first black president in America because both of the coach's in the superbowl are black? It doesn't make sense to me, but then again I don't watch football.

Mushroom, in all fairness there are hick northerners too who won't change their views on race. I'd be willing to say there are distributed pretty evenly between north and south.

you know I never knew how seriously people took the superbowl...for me..if my team ain't there, I ain't interested. I'll have to remember to revisit this thread after the elections.

But... today I heard on one of those financial channels, can't remember which, that the outcome of the superbowl supposedly also forecasts how the stock markets will act

I'm thinking it will be those who lose bets on Sundays that will try to make the markets move in their favor Monday

Who cares if its the first black or first two black coaches? .. I didnt check the race of the coach before I was rooting for a team. I think those who point out racial differencies are themselves the ones racist. Perhaps we should throw a party every time a black man ties his shoes.

Secondly, Obama .. sounds like Osama.. but anyways, hes by far not the first to run for President. Hes not that popular either.. he might be with the left, but Hillary is more so. He has no experience, to young, no one knows where he stands.. the only reason hes getting attention is because hes a black muslim.
Big frikin deal. Leave it the left to blow that up.

I don't think hes going to be "black enough" for the black population, and the last person who was, Al Sharpton, was to black for every one else. People start saying the wrong things at the wrong times to the wrong camera. Thats politics.

I personally don't believe the "black coach" issue depicted here has anything to do with the future presidents... however, the "superbowl" issue is right up my alley.

I foresee some "terroristic act" to take place during the Superbowl. I don't know if that would be a bomb plot, or the world's largest UFO sighting, or what... but I wouldn't put it past anything to happen, especially after all the talk on here (and everywhere else) about a 2nd 9/11 event.

90% of the American populous watching...
I dunno, maybe a couple hundred thousand people attending...
Maybe, 65-85% of the world population watching...

Let's see what happens.

I know you're Canadian and all, but we don't say "coloured" or "colored".

It's kind of degrading.

There's no way that many people can fit in Dolphin's Stadium. At the very most, 80,000.

I've been there for baseball games, so I can attest to it's size.

Also, the Superbowl is considered a Level 1 National Security Event. That's on the same level the Secret Service operates when the President is out and about.

I highly doubt anything will happen at the Superbowl on Sunday. I surely hope nothing dirty, I only live about 80 miles from the stadium.

You are kidding right? the rest of the world doesn't care about gridiron. Even Australia which is very culturally aligned to the US could care less, except if one of our Australian Rules Footballers is doing the punting.

uh, could you please explain to me why its degrading? that is how Canadians spell the word colour. I always have to ignore the spell checker in microsoft office because it thinks its spelt wrong lol.

back on topic, I personally am not a big football fan, but will probably watch parts of the game here and there with my friends.

also, I am not saying that the outcome of the game will determine the president, however, I am saying that, there is a possibility that this superbowl history may have influence on the public opinion of a black man to lead a team to victory, and to those who take the superbowl as seriously as anything else in their life (which there are a huge amount) this could help them to decide to vote for another change in history.

It is degrading calling them coloured not how you are spelling it.

The superbowl contest is also between two states that begin with the letter 'I'...as in Illinois (Chicago Bears) versus Indiania (Indianopolis Colts)

now both Indiania and Illinois are directly & principally Indigenous American Indian Names

"Chicago" sounds like its Native American also,
but all these elements are overshadowed by the black-american card...!??

Casinos, now super-bowls......i hope the various Indian Nations are getting something positive out of these 'twists of fate'

Not how you spell it. I know the differences in spelling (i.e. flavour, colour)

I meant referring to an African American as "colored" or "coloured" is a bit degrading. Sounds like segregation era vernacular.

Thanks
