For general purpose driving, front engine, front wheel drive is really the best, in my judgement, not that I'm against rear engine, rear wheel drive,
it's just that I don't know of many contemporary examples.
Torque steer and understeer do cut down on some of the pleasure, but understeer is a lot more forgiving than oversteer and, let's face it, most of us
don't have the money to wreck a car every couple of weeks just for the thrills.
In snow or mud, having the engine over the drive wheels makes things a lot more pleasant.
I don't have any experience with AWD, so I'll reserve my opinion on those.
