It's my understanding that hose who settled here first came because of religious persecution. They were kicked out of every country in Europe, not just England.

I think "taxation without representation" was one of the precursors for the revolutionary war, a totally different time-frame.

You are correct sir....

I echo the sentiments of those who made comparisons between the US and other countries around the world. With very few exceptions, you cannot find a more well-developed quality of life coupled with personal freedoms anywhere besides the USA.

If you don't like the system, then learn how it works and make efforts to change it from inside.

Well stated, Pyros.

While those of us in the US may not agree with everything our government does, we cannot forget the idea that we are able to speak about it without being either persecuted or prosecuted for those beliefs.

Taking up arms against the US, as a US citizen, is both a bad idea and a good way to provide a rationale for the government's Patriot Acts. Open warfare against the system that supports you, your family, your friends, and your entire way of life isn't the way to do it. You'd be labeled a terrorist and rightfully so. Why provide the propaganda machine with more fuel for the fire?

Combat and revolution are not the only way to effect change. Get an education, work your way into the political process, and work to achieve small changes. Whether that work is done by running for office yourself or working for the campaign of a politician you agree with is up to you.

One step at a time -- that's how you make changes to a large system. That's how the changes have happened over the last 200 years that you say are examples of corruption. So use the same system to fight them on their own terms.

As Gazrok pointed out, it's not too late to effect changes. You need to learn how to pick and choose your fights, however. You also need to remember that there are consequences for your actions.

If you truly wish to continue your plot of a violent overthrow of the US government, I'd like to point to the continuous attacks against the US military in the (by comparison) ill-funded, badly-equipped, backwater villages of Iraq. So if you would somehow succeed in your mad plan, you'd have way too many well-armed, well-trained, well-organized cells of resistance to deal with. Unless you're going to raise a revolutionary army the size of the full population of China (reference to another thread on ATS), you're not going to win, not matter how much you think you'd be right.

If your convictions and your beliefs say that changes need to be made, then do so in a civilized and legal manner. Otherwise you are no better than the corruption you claim to be "raging" against, Qlone.

'Nuff said.
