This is just found:
"Saddam's Fate 'Up To The Iraqis,' Bush Says"
Link:
www.defenselink.mil...

Excerpt:
"WASHINGTON, Dec. 15, 2003 The United States will assist Iraqis in developing a process to bring captured former dictator Saddam Hussein to justice for his crimes, President Bush told reporters here today.

Saddam will continue to be detained as the U.S. government works with Iraqi authorities "to develop a way to try him that will stand international scrutiny," Bush said during a press conference.

The Iraqi people, the president asserted, "need to be very much involved" with Saddam's fate, since they were the ones who were brutalized during Saddam's rule. "He murdered them, he gassed them, he tortured them," Bush pointed out.

Nonetheless, the president maintained that the deposed dictator -- who was discovered hiding in a hole and captured Dec. 13 by U.S. troops near Tikrit, Iraq -- deserves a fair trial. Saddam's ultimate fate, Bush declared, "is going to be up to the Iraqis."

Looks like legal snags or maybe its political manuvers are already surfacing in any possible trial or tribunal to try Saddam, now the US is keeping him under their custody for at least 6 months. Maybe its Saddam trying to negotiate?

Just found this:
"IGC discloses Saddam's location, site of trial"
Link:
www.washtimes.com...

Excerpt:
"Saddam Hussein is present in an area of greater Baghdad," council member Mowaffaq al-Rubaie told reporters.
"He was not moved to Qatar. This report was denied by [U.S. administrator L. Paul] Bremer and the coalition authority. ... He will be tried in Iraq in public by an Iraqi court."

There's no way Saddam will be allowed anywhere near the ICC. He knows way too much about the Reagan/Bush administrations' dealings.

He will be given a trial in Iraq by Iraqis, most likely.

Then he will meet his fate by a firing squad.

You know what they say,
Live by the gun, die by the gun.

He should be tried and executed by Iraqis, in Iraq. An international court would protect him from the death penalty. He does not desrve to live after what he did. The Iraqi people need to feel a sense of justice. Whatever that may be.

Wouldn't it be all the worse, though, if he was made to rot in a filthy little cell for the rest of his unnatural life? Just seems like death is the easy way out for him.

While that would be a worse fate, it is less about what is worse for Saddam, and more about what is justice for the Iraqi people.

The Iraqi people most definitely deserve to try him first and to hand down whatever sentence they deem appropriate. The U.S. should have no say in it whatsoever. I do believe, though, that Iran, Kuwait, and Israel also have a right to try him for crimes against them - after Iraq hands down their sentence. I don't think he'll make it that far, though. He might be murdered or die somehow in custody before any trial takes place. (To keep him quiet.)

Well, if we let Iran try him, we will have to let them try us for giving him the weapons he used to gas thier troops. So thats a no-no. If Isreal tried him, the Arab world would have a cow. So thats a no-no too. I dont think he will die before he goes on trial. If he says anthing that the US doesnt want to get out, it wont.

It would be fairly easy to achieve a hit on Saddam, especially being Iraq. All they'd have to do is transfer him from one place to another and hit him in the transition. And we probably would truly never know who did it. There are many ways he could be gotten to.

Referring to him being tried by other nations, that very well could happen if he stood before the ICC. However, betcha dollars to donuts he won't even make it that far. Hell, he could simply get mobbed by angry Iraqis before any justice is meted out.
