Okay chris, several questions.

Has this always happened, or is this a new problem?

Also which browser do you have?

Did you always have the same browser?

Never normally happens. New Problem.

I use internet explorer 6 and always have.

I watch youtube vids on a regular basis and they have always worked.

I have rebooted a few times just to see if the new version of the Flash player worked but still nothing...

Okay. I thought that maybe you were having the same trouble as I was some time back. Here:

www.belowtopsecret.com...

But my problem was with a Firefox extension.

Any recent software changes? Perhaps some form of security software?

Or maybe some firewall change?

I'm no expert, but tring to help you narrow down the cause.

I know you said you downloaded a new flash version, but was it the correct one, from the actual Adobe site?

YouTubeHelp

The video won't play—what's wrong?

All of the videos on YouTube are streamed through a Flash player, so you need to have the latest version of Macromedia Flash installed on your computer.

To download it, please visit Adobe.

You may want to try this:
In IE6 go to Tools >
Internet Options >
Settings >
View Objects >

You should see a Shockwave Flash player installed. If not, use the Adobe link to install it. If it is there (and it was me), I would right click on it, and delete it. Close all browser windows, go to the Adobe site, and install the recommended Shockwave Flash player.

Another thing, Shockwave Flashplayer is an IE browser ActiveX add on. So if you have ActiveX disabled, it won't work me thinks.

To enable ActiveX Controls:
(If you're using Windows XP with service pack 2)

In IE6 go to Tools >
Internet Options >
Security tab >
Internet icon >
Custom Level >
Make sure that ActiveX controls and plug-in settings are all set to "Enable".

Best of Luck

I had the same problem. One day the YouTube vids worked, the next day it didn't. I think after a while they just started working again.

Makeitso, thanks for your advise but I had already done all of that previously, but it was the patch that done the trick in the end...

I had been going through all the active x stuff and Java stuff for about 4 hours.
But i'm glad for the input

Please describe your hard drive symptoms, OS, etc.

Is it making a clackiing noise, or it just cant be found?

Also, the model info may be handy for us to help you.

There are a couple BTS threads that suggest hard drive recovery software.
Here's one

The drive is a Maxtor 300GB One Touch External USB/FW, i'm using USB.

I noticed that it was slowing done when accessing my music collection. I performed a defrag which resulted in me losing around 150 files.

Today it decided to remain incognito, and could not be identified. I managed to get it recognised after tipping it on to its front, and have managed to save all but one of my folders which contain my pictures.

When trying to access some folders, it asks me if I want to format the drive, which I obviously have said no to each time.

At the moment I am labouriously transferring the folders one by one onto my main internal drive, which will run out of space before I've transferred them all.

How well would HD recovery software work?

Thanks for your time makeitso, your assistance is mightly appreciated.
