The final lineup is rather bizarre in my opinion. For example, I don't understand why Hagia Sofia should be there, as opposed to any other great cathedral like St Peters, Chartres, Durham, any number of Orthodox medieval monastic churches, etc.

Or why the Statue of Liberty should be there. Iconic, sure, but "wondrous"???

Cheers.

Rob.

i agree that there are a few in the list of 21 that really shouldn't be there. it would have been much fairer to allow a free vote and pick the most 7 voted. still, there are a few amazing structures that would have been on my list anyway

Just wondering but how is the Great Wall of China a wonder of the world? Doesnt everyone know who made it and what for. I admit it is a good accomplishment but I dont think it is a wonder of the world. Wonders are suppose to be unexplainable things I think. Maybe like the Coral Castle in flordia.

erm, where did you get that idea from? even the original 7 wonders of the ancient world had known builders and im pretty sure they know who built things like the eiffel tower and the sydney opera house in the new shortlist.

they are just supposed to be outstanding constructions that make you go WOW - nothing mysterious in that.

I think Hagia Sofia is there because it is/was the template for all the others.

Hahaha, yes and no, depends on each of us.

I suppose we also know who made pyramid and what pyramid for. Coral Castle is not ancient at all, and he made it for his girl friend who left him.
We all know what this for and who made it: Haga Sophia, Taj Mahal and most of them, we know! I think you have racist problem

For sure we all know Liberty statue SHOULD NOT be in the list at all. And it is NOT American who made it.

Personally, I think Ka'bah in Mecca should be listed as no.1, it has the most visitors every year in the world.

1.5 billions people can't be wrong.
