even better work

I agree, regardless of the factual nature, it was one wicked freakin read!!!

would make an excellent short film...I have a small audio studio and a fair bit of video gear as well, all the caves and mine shafts in my area would be a perfect shooting location. The fact my brother in-law does special effects work for film would be of great help too
If I can find the time, perhaps I'll make amini-low buget thriller

Hey exdog, are you serious about making this movie? Because if you're not going to do it, I'm a screenwriter on the side and I'm going to adapt it unless you're going to use it. Let me know if you're going to please...

Anarchist,

The story actually is an author's intellectual property, but you probably know that being a screenwriter.

This is a retooling of a short story which can be found on the net. I actually have the original storie's author's e-mail, I sent him a letter and he never got back to me. I think he is just content with the minor sensation he has caused.

"The man in real life is an author and a geological professor who has studied bats in their natural habitat. Hence his in depth knowledge of caving and his gift of illiteration.

What you would do to find him, is do a search on here for the caver story, or on the net under the name of the cave, remember he named it in the story, I just cant remember it.

Ahh here you go, I found this on page 5 of this thread.

"With a little research, I found that the original author of the Ted the Caver story is by Mr. Thomas Lera. He wrote this story sometime in the 1980's. He was also a caver. He was born in 1900 and died in 1993. I do believe that it was formally published." That is not my research, I just copied and pasted from page 5 of this thread.

Thanks,

-ADHDsux4me

P.S. I am an actor/writer myself, but right now its a blooming hobby as one has to feed themself on standard jobs.

Thanks, but yes I already knew if I wanted to do it I would have to get the original writer's permission. I, too, am just writing as a hobby but currently looking for my big break to get me into it professionally. This story feels like it has "film festival" written all over it, if not simply because of it's "Blair Witch" reminiscence. As you may or may not know, "The Blair Witch Project" was originally a part of the Sundance Film Festival, which is held just miles from where I used to live.

I'm sure he is content with the way his story is captivating people on the internet the way it is, but if I need to I'll do a little persuading and see if I can't get the rights to it then so be it. If not, it'll still have been worth a try!

Thanks to both of you for the additional information. I also feel that the author is very content- for the story does bring forth awe with simplicity. It is a good feeling to read the various responces in this thread, it must be a great feeling for the original author.

And the tale brings inspiration to people...who knows how many people this short story has affected!

ADHDsux4me you said- "I sent him a letter and he never got back to me."
What would be cool is if we could extend an invitation, fon an interview here.
This would inspire many people, and certainly hearing about his thoughts and motivations for writing the story would be most interesting. I would be glad to help put an invitation together, if you want...if he is dead then maybe his relatives, wife or child.

Thats a good story, and it sounds to be true, eventhough it could be a hoax. The scariest part is when the dog barks. Many animals have been known to have sensed danger before humans do.Dogs are a perfect example.

Is the endpage deleted or something?

DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU"VE DONE!? Does anyone respect the fact that he wanted to remain anonymous? Maybe he knew his life was in danger or something! I don't mean to yell at anyone, but seriously, putting his name out there publicly seems a little...mean, for lack of a better word.

this address i am sure is a combination of the munsters meets.. Beverly Hills 90210 - teen drama series.. could have been more imaginative really...

However it is a good story other than 1 moajor flaw that I can see, Ted's friend 'B' was not able to fit into the cave and would therefore would not have been in the same jeopardy, surely?!

Good read, but complete BS! Perhaps they did find a hole in a cave and did dig it out and did explore it, thus the pictures that were taken, but that is about it. The rest is a cleverly made up story about what did not happen after the cave was explored. Conveniently, no pics from inside the cave came out, especially the cave wall drawings. The video camera was left behind. "Joe" refuses to talk about what he saw. The cheesy noises and images that "B" and "Ted" experienced intheir homes. And most of all, the page that would give the conclusion on the website is not availble

Like I said, this was a good read, but is pure fiction. It has all the tell tale signs of a movie. The wrong decisions, the lack of conclusive evidence, the freaked out guy who won't tell what he saw or experienced. Send this script to M. Knight Shamalan

This story was worth staying up late to finish. Great find!

I noticed that the narrator mentioned a creature called the 'hodag' in his last chapter. The author clearly wanted us to think that Ted and Joe were eaten by such a thing the next time they went to the cave (note how the monster issue is deliberately brought up right before the final return to the cave). To give you an idea of what the author was thinking of when he created the story's unseen monster, I did a quick search on google for hodag links:

filebox.vt.edu...

filebox.vt.edu...

webpages.charter.net...

Perhaps the author of this thread would like to start a thread in cyrpto beats about hodag's? Perhaps it's time for ATS to start a forum dedicated to underground creatures/conspiracies (since tales of underground reptilians are now taking up about half of the ET forum)?

This link may be of some interest...More BS if you ask me, but it seems to follow this story...

www.gigdig.com...

It seems to be a letter to Ted from his sister, trying to track him down.

Then, click on the following link and notice the change made to the original "Ted's Cave page"...

www.gigdig.com...

which used to be this....

www.holyshiite.com...

From cruising the net for more info on this story, it seems that there are alot of discussion forums that all feel the same way we do, good story, but not the real deal

to Klepto- for reading the whole thread... I am still impressed by the reactions of people after they have read this story.
There is a sence of 'reality' in the story, isn't there? I guess there is always that part of us, which asks, What if? Rationally, it is fiction....but then again...
Ted lives on!

And, your latter suggestion should be noticed by admin- great idea!

Did you see the sketch he drew,it looks exactly like the blair witch project wooden cross in the movie slightly changed. But I have to say what a good writer!I would change a few things though, instead of the pictures not turning out he should of faked a couple of hieroglyphics on the wall, and instead of joe going in by himself and coming out all scared refusing to talk it should of been both of them going in. oh and I would ditch the part about the moster grabing on the end of the rope!other than that a GOOD READ!

I read this about a year ago. Its a good read. It kept me interested.
While I don't doubt that there are subterranean creatures that we don't know about lurking in the vast caverns of the US, this read like a work of fiction to me.
I disbelieve about 99% of these 'true stories' that pop up. No pictures, no video. Tough for me to put much stock into
