I'm going to form an exploratory comittee to investigate my options. I'll consult with my inner circle on this matter, too. Input is welcome.

My Fellow Voters,

We Reformers do one thing and one thing well, reform stuff. So, with the world in the heap of trouble that it's in, we need someone that's tired of putting up with the corporate bickering and lies between parties.

I, TheBorg, shall take it upon myself as your President to see to it that We as a People will remain in touch with those we elect. It will be an honor to serve the People that truly embody this great nation. I am but a humble man, one that will be the figurehead that will evenly distribute the power of the Congress and Executive Branch to all voters.

My first major reform will be the addition of a new daily voting system. This system will become the standard by which everyone will have a say about what gets passed, and what doesn't. This will both foster conversation, as well as encourage involvement in our communities. By voting on the daily business going on at all levels of the government, You, the voters, will have the unique opportunity to select how we the elected vote on the bills presented to us.

For example, if a vote was brought before the House, and was passed, it then goes onto the Senate. Once there, they vote on it too, and then it will come to me, where I'll accept it, since You, the People, wanted it. All you'll have to do is logon to your computers, and select which way you'd like the vote to go. The majority vote will be the way that the representative, or senator, MUST vote, since it's the way that his/her constituents wanted it.

It also bears mentioning here that the reason that we still will have two houses of Congress is because I'd like there to be a failsafe in the system, such that in the event that something was missed, there will be time to correct and amend any problems noticed by the People before the bill gets passed into law. No need for useless amendments to amendments.

Of course, the main objective here is to allow we the elected to be in closer contact with You, the voters, so that we might get closer to that ever so perfect ideal of Democracy. Should You elect me, I'll see to it that YOU have a say, unlike the current trend, where corporations own everyone, and have ALL of the say.

For Democracy,

TheBorg

Cool

This could get very complex very quickly

I have always wanted to run the Republican ticket as a born again Christian...

I might even make it out of the dugout!

Someone may have already asked this, but can I "Run for President" on ATS if I am not an American citizen? I know it says "All members of ATS", but I am just clarifying, since in the real world you cannot.

Also, can we run with another member on our side, as a Vice President, etc?

[Edit] Sorry, after re-reading, this has become more clear now.

Will you hear me out?

No. You aren't American therefore you can't possibly have our best
interests at heart. You have what you THINK are ... but they aren't.

In the end you are still a foreigner and therefore you do what is best for you and your country, not me or my country. You bring a foreign flavor to what you think is right ... but most of our american ancestors left that, braving oceans and seastorms and sharks and death, to get away from the European (and failing) way of doing things.

I don't want it back.

BUT if it makes you feel better .. I do agree that you are a better candidate than that cheese-eatting-surrender-monkey and faux-war-hero John Kerry. He may be an American (on paper anyways) but at least you call it like you see it and don't play 'spin games' .. which is appreciated.

Grim is 17 (I think) and he's running. Libertarian I bet. If foreigners can run in this faux-election then you can too.

That I am. I will look foward to debating The Borgs Platform if I get the chance because I have already run the idea through before and realized its flaws. That means I can't wait to start debating.

Already starting the mudslinging, eh?

Well, just so ya know, I've been fleshing out the idea, and have added a few things that will make things run a bit more smoothly. I'm not going to tip my hand until it's time though, so just guess away.

In any event, happy campaigning, and may the best candidate win!! *offers handshake*

Now, just because he/she isn't living in the US doesn't mean that they don't know what's best for the People as a whole. Oftentimes, it's those that sit idly by, quietly watching the situation from afar, that seem to have the best understanding of the situation. It will only become apparent whether that's true or not when they present their arguments/views. I'm anxious to see what my competition will throw at me. Good luck to all!!

Oh, and one more thing. I'm going to reveal a little strategy of mine, for the betterment of the ATS crowd. I don't resort to cheap mudslinging like most politicians, so all of you candidates are able to rest easy in knowing that I won't be degrading you're character just so I can get elected. I believe in the system doing the deciding, not the worst night out on the town being the thing that determines my political fate.

For Democracy,

TheBorg

I am Gimmefootball400 and I am running for the Office of the Presidency of the United States on ATS for the Democratic Nomination. I will make it my sworn duty to run a clean and excellent campaign. As most of you folks know by my posts on here, I am very polite. I'm like The Vagabond also, I too would have voted for Pedro if I saw the t-shirts. What would be scary about me being elected is that I have a brain unlike a majority of politicians in Washington.

I would......

First.
Ensure the safety and well being of every legalized citizen in my country without intruding on their privacy nor take away our freedoms that our Forefathers set for us in the government to follow.

Second.
Sign an agreement with Mexican government as to where they must secure their side of the border.

Third.
Set aside millions to help fight hunger and poverty in the United States of America. That way more people will not be living on the streets of American cities.

Fourth.
Build the Armed Forces back up like it was before Clinton's second term in office without having to reinstate the draft.

Fifth.
I would only reinstate the military draft if this country was at a severe risk of attack from another country.

Sixth.
I would also make it a priority to find and prosecute all persons who were behind the Iraq War intelligence debochle and the invasion itself.

Seventh.
One of my priorities would be to require the railroads of the United States, even Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific, to help in the mass evacuation of a particular area. First offense will result in a one million dollars per hour fine if the order is not heeded. Second, will be a thirty fold increase per day. Third offense will result in a takeover where the length shall be determined by the Secretaries of the Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the Association of American Railroads. However, the Canadian rail lines will not be taken over, but fined fifty fold after the thirty million per day.

Eighth.
Have a bill passed that sets up a Universal Health Care System that will cover every legalized citizen of the United States.

Ninth.
I would also do away with the lawless domestic spying that the NSA has been allowed to do under the current administration. This includes wiretapping and the bugging of people homes and property. If I were to find out who authorized the wiretapping, they shall be charged with Treason and put in front of a Military Tribunal.

Tenth.
Make 'Super Bowl Sunday' a national holiday.

Most of all I would go after corporations who ship jobs overseas to avoid the labor laws here in the states. This will include any corporation that has blatantly shipped jobs overseas due to the Unionization of workers here in the States. Any corporation that has been found to be doing this will be punished to the full extent of the law that the law will allow. First offense will be a lawsuit brought on by the government against said company. That company must pay up a given amount within the time frame alotted by the courts. If the company does not comply, that is when it starts to go downhill for the CEOs of that company.

Second offense will be the formal charging and conviction of CEOs as to where the evidence determines the severity of the punishment. Charges will range from Money Laundering to Conspiracy. The money laundering charges, if convicted, itself carry a maximum of up to fifteen years inside a Federal Corrections Facility. The conspiracy charges, again if convicted, would carry a maximum of up to fifty years in jail. On the third offense is when the company is shut down by the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Also on the third offense, the CEOs in charge of the company at that time will be tried in the courts.

I would also go after the so-called lobbyists and the so-called institutes in Washington. If any lobbyist were to be found to have been coherecing money from companies for a political gain for a politican, the lobbyist will be in deep trouble. The lobbyist, if convicted, could spend up to sixty years in a Federal jailhouse. Not only will that lobbyist be in trouble with the law, that politican that they were giving money to would be in trouble. The certain politician(s) will be removed from their post, removed from their seat in either the House or the Senate, and not be allowed to run for a government position again.

Don't think that the companies involved will get off with just a slap on the wrist, oh no. The company or companies involved will be subjected to Congressional and Justice Department investigation. If the evidence supporting the case is overwhelming, it will be then that the case will be taken to court. Whoever it is that has been found to have been giving these contributions will be punished to the full extent as to which the law will allow.

Another thing I would do is to clean up our image in parts of Europe, Asia, and most definitely in the Middle East. That is to make up our alliances that were lost due to the former administrations view on foreign policy. Any country that was pushed aside by them that wants us back by their side, I will make that happen. Not only that, I will make it my duty to revive the alliances that were destroyed due to the former administration's views.

Why can't we be friends after all?

Yes it does.

Someone who doesn't even live in America and who isn't American wants to tell all Americans what to do. That's obnoxious and wrong. (no offense intrepid)

Would a middle aged white woman make a good NAACP president? NO.

Would the Protestant Queen of England make a good Catholic Pope? NO.

Would a foreigner who doesn't even live here, and doesn't understand the spirit of America, and doesn't have that American spirit in his/her heart make a good US President? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

(MOST) of our ancestors left other countries and their way of doing things to come here to a different way of life. We didn't want to live like THEM. We have our own spirit. We are fiercely independent and proud of it. IT'S OUR CULTURE. We are NOT European or Canadian. We don't want to be European or Canadian. (euro-socialism is failing btw). We are Americans. They aren't. That's all there is to it.

Won't work.

The Mexican government is using America as a dumping ground. It's sending those it doesn't want over here so they don't have to take care of them and so they don't have to jail the bad guys. The Mexican government is sending them over the border sometimes even equiped with maps and GPS to get them here.

It saves them tons of money by dumping those people here and making the US tax payer deal with them.

Oh ... I read somewhere that 1/5 of the Mexican 'work force' are actually illegals in America.

Mexico isn't going to stop the dumping and it isn't going to add 20% to their unemployment rate. They wont' sign any agreement.

You have to build a wall. A tall wall. A deep wall. A fat wall. And you have to put troops on it.

This event is open to all ATS members and staff, regardless of region.

As is the core ideal of ATS and AbovePolitics.com, we're looking for quality ideas and compelling political debate. It doesn't matter where it comes from.

GOOD. Then you'll be just fine with me practicing my AMERICAN right to free speech in this faux-election for AMERICAN president.

A non-American can not understand America or Americans any more than the Protestant Queen of England can understand and run the Catholic Church.

Consider my opinions to be the same as a newspaper commentary during a presidential election in America. Guess the foreigners will have to deal with the negative commentaries in the press ... just like real politicians in a real election.

Oh dear,

i've lost count how many Americans on this board like to post their views on how we should all run our countries (especially regarding the UK and Europe). So when ATS invents a game to help increase the popularity of PTS by a President Elections, it results in.....

Funny.
There are many many more who tell America what to do.

when ATS invents a game

You think I'm taking this too seriously? Perhaps. I'll give that some thought. Franky, I find this 'election' insulting and obnoxious. But I'll give your post - that it's just a 'game' - some consideration and get back to you on that.
