So in 4 years you realistically expect world peace, lowered taxes, no more national deficit, no more wars, everyone is out of debt, violence and murder rates at an all time low, unemployement at an all time low, economy booming, and interest rate on loans great for the average american?

Lets be realistic. Lets try taking steps to put us on the right path. Be realistic and make a difference, or promise a fantasy, get nothing done, and fail miserably?

I will do what I can to put us on a path to better our nation, but one thing is for certian. It took a long time to dig ourselves into the hole we find ourselves in now. A hole that was here before Bush Jr. and even Clinton. We face many rising problems like the national debt which need a solution and immediately. It took many years to get this deep in the hole, and we aren't going to get out of the hole in 4 years. The goal is to start building a way out, make progress.

You are the announced candidate, this is suppose to be about what you realistically expect.

Lets be realistic.

This is code for "don't expect too much". What the heck should I be realistic about? You have yet to say anything.

I will do what I can ...

It took many years to get this deep in the hole, and we aren't going to get out of the hole in 4 years.

How about leading and we'll see how far we get in 4 years.

Because I am not going to make false promises. I'm not going to set a benchmark that is too high to realistically reach. I'm not going to set a benchmark that is too low because that give the idea once we get that far then we can relax. No, benchmarks simply don't work. I'm not going to say "We will end wars around the globe" because if it doesn't happen, I made a promise I could not keep. Maybe you or other people can throw around promises like they were just words, but for me if I make a promise its because I know without a doubt I could do it. If I made a promise as president and failed, I would probably step down as president.

That what my word means to me, so I don't go throwing it around for every idea that comes to my head. You confuse the fact I am not naive with the wild idea that I am not looking to make a difference.

I will strive as much as possible to change the problems people feel are most important and urgent. At the same time it is my duty to make people aware of problems which will also threaten our way of life.

What do I stand for?
Minimizing government power, so that they can increase their ability to enforce the basic rights which you were given via the constitution from our forefathers. Things such as welfare should be phased out from governmental function and made into a private sector function.

Does that mean I am going to just cut off welfare, no. It means that we will creates steps which will get welfare out of the hands of government, and into the hands of the public, where it belongs.

If your a socialist, then chances are you won't agree with me and I can understand that. As socialists you believe that the government should be in charge of taking care of the public and its people jobs in a country to take care of one another. Now I cannot tell you that I am going to give that to you, as I am a libertarian. I can understand why you have the ideals you do. My point is that regardless of our personal beliefs and personal morality, this country was founded as a means to prevent that from restricting other people. As much as we each believe in our own ideals and morals, we cannot let that effect our vision of preserving a nation which was built on the ideas that you have rights which cannot be violated.

I personally believe in helping the less fortunate. When I have money to spare, I try to help people who need it. That does not mean that my personal beliefs will get in the way of others people right to make a similiar or opposing decisions to help a person in a jam.

Its comes down to taking others into consideration. As a basis of freedom, you cannot control others peoples right to choose. In saying that you must do what you believe is right and hope that other people will make the right decisions. The basis of unity is going under the idea that you must have faith in your fellow citizen. You cannot control the publics right to choose, because that is the essence of freedom.

so vagabond needs a TEAM now? *scoffes* he must be losing his touch. Anyway I'll be going solo except for a VP. I see no need to involve other "advisors" and such to make it a big mess. Why should we complicate things more then they need to be? That turns off people from politics, not interests them. As my catch phrase since last year has been "Keep it simple" (those who know me in person can vouge for that motto).

I think that having a team is valuable, because we all tend to be somewhat focused on our own agendas and often blind to other legitimate concerns. I welcome the help and support of our team and would be interested in hearing (via U2U or other) from others here on the board about issues that THEY feel are important.

After all, the election isn't about MY agenda -- it's about a national agenda. If you'll forgive a momentary bit of criticism, one of the faults of the current administration is that it has all been about Bush's agenda and that of his cronies (as in the Haliburton connections).

Well I see it as a matter of what needs to be done. I am not one to trust another person to do what I am entrusted to do. I stand for the basic prinicple that I give you the best possible oppertunity to make your own decisions and put your money where you believe it should be.

So in a sense, its not so much as my personal agenda to impose my ideals on everyone else because my only ideal is that each person be allowed to express their own ideals and beliefs to the best of their ability.

Some thoughts, difficult as they may be.

How can I put this.....?

Its already been mooted by at least one poster at the start of this thread that non-American ATS'ers really shouldn't be involved in this. And whilst SO clearly states that the "competition" is open to every ATS member the fact remains that certain posters and sections of the board can get damned ugly when dealing with anyone who isn't from the USA, from simple sarcasm through patronisation and full on agressive insulting behaviour.

So, the question remains as to who "policies" the topics, and whether or not a huge "territorial weeing" (I toned the phrase down) contest can be avoided for those of us who are non USA residents that might like to get involved - other than the usual ATS T&C will we have some civility guidelines to work with?

OK.

I've thought about this and at this time I would hereby like to declare my candidacy for the AbovePolitics.com 2007 Elections for President. I would consider myself to lean towards the Democrat way of thinking so thats the base I intend to work from, although I have a few reformist ideas as well.

Could be interesing and could be fun
I'm currently working on the opening statement of my manifesto and I'll let you guys have it in the near future.

Be gentle with me people

I suspect that that they're holding the forum until Feb 1, when things are supposed to officially kick off.
Welcome to the fight Neformore. I don't plan to fight dirty, but I don't think anything that anyone does in this campaign is likely to come across as exactly gentle.

This sounds like inside information to me. What else do you know that your not telling?

Welcome to the fight Neformore.

Don't trust him Neformore. The rumor is that Vagabond was one of those undisclosed people attending the Cheney/Enron meeting and that his team members have connections to Diebold.

Vagabond, Is it true that you received a box of cigars as xmas gift from Monica?

Don't worry, I know a lot of things and I'll be telling them to you quite a bit over the next several months. You might lose the election, but you'll sure learn a lot.

No, it was Jessica Alba, and I gave her the cigars

People, fellow cadidates, ATS members.

We should all conduct ourselves with higher moral charactor thain those in washington. I ask our fellow candidates to please stop these negitive attacks now so that each of us can continue to develop and realy put our message out to the voters.

We are better thain negitive ad campaigns. We should hold ourselves above the standards set in Washington. We all have the same goal here but diffrent views on how to achieve this common uniting task that lye ahead of us.

Each and every candidate here has something to offer this race. All opinions and thoughts should be recognised as valid ones without need to degrade or tear down one annother.

I submit that this contest should be about who the best person is for the job not who is the least worst for the job.

Thank you

I didn't attack Jessica Alba... I just gave her some cigars hehe. A little levity goes a long way in these things. There's going to be plenty of big time serious discussion, and I'm game for that. Doesn't mean we can't have a little fun at the expense of politics as usual, as long as we don't actually mean it when we mimick it.

We should hold ourselves above the standards set in Washington.

That would be a very bad idea; see my sentence above. Besides, if we did things the way Washington does, we'd all be in jail. Only the real president can get away with some of that stuff.

Each and every candidate here has something to offer this race.

Except for nobody... he hasn't even commented on his nomination.

Thank you

You're in politics and you are now above manners. You can puke right in the Prime Minister of Japan's lap if you really want to.

Fun is fun, and I am all about that. If this board wasn't any fun I wouldent have put any posts into it in the first place.

My point exactly, we should conduct ourselves far beyond those in Washington. We should conduct this race in the highest possible meaning of the ideals of democracy. Debate, Challenge, and Ideals. Not negitive campaigns against each other. The voters of this board should be able to select a candidate by real ideals not by propiganda.

Each and every candidate here has something to offer this race.

well Nobody hasnt submited much in the way of this thread, less even tried to run for any board. I would submit that nobody is a coward and would not last a day in this campaign.

Thank you

Manners are always important weather your are running for a seat or not. there is not one person in the world that should be above manners.

Again thank you.

I think that we may be underestimating nobody here a little bit. For all we know, (s)he's just watching what we're saying, and planning a superior platform from which to run. I would think that actually, that'd prolly be his/her best possibility of getting nominated, since almost everyone that wants in has already thrown in their gauntlets.

All I suggest is that we don't throw anyone out just because they choose not to start prematurely.

With all of that said though, I still think that if he/she doesn't run, that I'll be more than happy to have an advisor to keep be abreast of all of the major pertinent news around here and the world at large when I get elected,

Well I was going to change my Avatar and stuff to come over as more...patriotic, but then I figured it would look more like plain old ass-kissing and I'm not about that so I'll just be plain old me and see how it all goes.

To give you all something of an inside track, my main drive may well be aimed at the WWE/MTV watching generation. There willl be diagrams, and catchphrases and underneath it all there may even be some sense

I shall be writing my opening statement at lunchtime today.

Well I wouldn't worry too much about your avatar not looking very patriotic. She looks very..... patriotic to me. Yeah, that's the word... patriotic. ;P

As for my main statement, it'll run under the same platform that I've already stated, with a little flushing out for clarity. I've got some kinks to work out of the plan, but if all goes well, I'll give y'all something to really think about while you vote for me.

Heh, in other words, good luck!!

Beginning February 1, 2007 any member of ATS can announce their candidacy for President of the United States, and let our members know about your platform.

People are asking when the forums will open and when the fun will begin. Based on the first post in this thread, I would say Feb. 1st.

Unless I'm not reading that right

I'll announce my platform then (still figuring it out)
Edit: Quick poll
Would you all be for or against increasing the number of bio and chemical weapons the US has. And for or against using D.U.?
Oh, and those pesky term limits, should we keep them?
Just curious
