I'll just list 5 of my favourites as well, in no particular order:

1. Rory Gallagher.

2. Brian May.

3. Ritchie Blackmore.

4. Robin Trower.

5. Steve Lukather.

This question pops up on message boards sooo many times. The lists

I like Steve Gaines of Skynyrd, Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes. These are just my personal favs.

But anyone ever listen to The Mars Volta? Omar Rodriguez is pretty insane on the guitar. I also like Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth. There are too many great ones to pick the greatest ever I mean you got Hendrix, Page, Stevie Ray, the list could go on.

Oh, and Riot, haha I didnt read your post before I posted, didnt expect anyone else to list guitarists from Sonic Youth.

Guys go google Andy McKee. THis is a down home kinda guy, who absolutly kicks ass at guitar!! He is proof that not all men are created equal.

He also has a myspace page under his name. He has won a ton of hand picking contests and plays like he was born to play guitar.

Randy Rhoads was the man hands down, there are so many great guitarists but he was my personal fave. As for the other four I really can't put them in order.
