berlin had several songs that got decent airplay before that top gun song. good songs actually. far better than the top gun junk.

I said Mickey but now, thanks to your mentioning it again I have it stuck in my head.

anyone up for some Biz Markie? Just a friend was his one hit.

How about Mexican Radio by wall of voodoo?

I love the fact that Derek and the Dominos officially had only one hit in Layla, yet the entire album is filled with some of the best songs.

some more goodies:
Dee-Light - Groove is in the Heart (this one came from my wife)
That Four Non Blondes Song. I can never remember the name of it but she sings "what's going on?"

as the work day comes to an end, I will paraphrase another one hit wonder, Right Said Fred, "I'm too sexy for this thread."

back when the buggles were riding the charts with video killed, in NYC, every night on WPIX (no longer in existence) they had the top ten at ten. I would listen to it every night and for weeks the top two songs would flip flop between the buggles and a song by a guy named Rob Hegel. The song was Tommy, Judy and Me. Years later my older sister and I tried finding the song in record stores but it was nowhere to be found. It was, apparently, not much of a hit outside of this radio station. The song was about a dorky guy who loved a slutty girl who was supposedly sleeping with the school stud. By the end of the school the nerdy guy gets the girl and finds out the guy "can't get it up, he's all talk"

With the advent of file sharing and online music I once again started searching for the song, to no avail. About a year ago I tried again and found the song as well as a ton of info on the singer. Seems he was invited onto American Bandstand but was not allowed to sing his song because it was too racy. so he sang some other song, dooming his most likely hit to almost ran status.

here, for your listening pleasure, is the song.

was I the only one who watched that show on VH1 that focussed on getting 80's bands back together? great bands on that show

That dude who sings the song they play every year around new years, the song about two former lovers meeting and the damned sad song ends with "the snow turned into rain" and everyone who hears it is crying even though it plays constantly for about a week.

I eat cannibals by Total Cuelo
Safety Dance by Men Without Hats
AEIOU by Ebn Ozn
Sheesh my memory isn't so totally faded

Eye of the tiger - Survivor
Theme from Ghostbusters - Ray Parker

of course we had the moronic fad songs like Pac Man Fever too but I never understood how those songs sold records.

I think I saw some of those. Didn't they have Flock of Seagulls, and Tears for Fears?

Or was that one of those 'Where are they Now' shows?

Nena has had quite a few hits in Europe..

Personally, I have to pull out "Babylon Zoo - Spaceman" - Awesome track, the album it came form "The Boy With The X-Ray Eyes" is my favorite! The track was even awarded with 'hit of the century' in some magazine, or was that MTV.. Anyway, apart from the track (And maybe 1 more from the album), people totally forgot about Babylon Zoo. A pity...
