Unlike Microsoft who uses the power of Monopoly and illegal trade practices to stifle competition, Apple does well because it simply makes better
products. If the Zune wasn't such a miserable design it could have done a bit better.
Apple is now pushing the cell phone makers to newer heights. Nokia, which makes superb cell phones, will have to step up to the plate and also improve
its design capabilities. If Apple manages to capture significant market share due to its design, that only means there was a desire for it... a need
that was not being fulfilled by others.
Apple TV is just an extension of this design philosophy. People want to watch, what they want, when they want, and offering a new way to access
content is only a good thing. I don't see iTV being huge just yet, but it will spur development in home entertainment from manufacturers across the
board.
Apple has a long history of innovative design that leads the markets to new areas. That being said, Apple is still a small player in comparison to
Microsoft. Branching into new arenas is not in and of itself a reason to worry about any future need to break up the company.
Edited to add: You should note, that Apple did not go entirely alone when it came to the iPhone. Apple worked with Google, youtube, and Cingular, in
desiging the iPhone. Their new product all ready plays well with others and is not monopolizing the market.
