I just found an interesting article about how NASA may have killed life on Mars during the Viking Space Probe mission.

Nasa Found Life on Mars and Killed it

Hope this hasn't been posted already.

Anyways this actually sounds pretty reasonable, compared to some other theories and does seem like something the US would unintentionally do.

I for one believe it is highly likely, what do you guys think?

Interesting read.

Thanks for the link.

It's sad that NASA spends so many billions a year...and is still woefully inadequate....

Or intentionally.

I don't trust NASA and would not put anything past them.

Very interesting article, btw. Thanks for posting the link.

Good. Remember War of the Worlds? It's about time we served up a little payback!

But his entire argument falls apart since the Viking probes either tested positive for life or inconclusive

Well it's not like they exterminated the whole microbial species, I suppose. I'm sure there must be some dirt left on Mars that they can test.

But it's a pity that after the amount of money that was pumped into those missions, the scientists only considered searching for lifeforms based off what we have on Earth. I mean, even I can think broader than that . . .

btw, great avatar, dk2852

Why would anyone intentionally non-threatening microbial life, especially when that microbial life is millions of miles away? Does someone have a vendetta against Martian microbial life? "Die Martian microbial life! Die!" Well, sorry, but those microbes will care about as much as this lamp that's next to me.

Intresting article, this website also has a report on that incident. Nothing special pretty much says the same thing but here you can view what other people thought of it.

I think the title is misleading.
The article says they MAY have destroyed cells when TESTING for water.

To the OP, you're TITLE is misleading. What are you trying to accomplish?

The title may be misleading, but this is my opinion. Other posters post threads titled I was abducted. Is it a fact that they were abducted? Probably not.

This however has much evidence, and apparently scientists are finding it plausible.
Let's face it we didn't know much back then, our view on extraterrestrial life has changed very much in 30 years, in another 30 I'm sure they will haev conclusive evidence, as long as they don't destroy it again.

not MAY,
it is..

you are saying in the title they killed life.
then you say its POSSIBLE they killed life.

If other people are doing misleading titles, then why would you want to continue that negative aspect of ATS? why not rise above it and post a correct title?

that, is just my opinion!
