Just wanted to say great work on this thread mate - it amazes me how many quakes there are, and how frequent.

Question - do you think they're increasing in frequency/severity? Or is this something that has been consistent for years?

Well, I really don't know. After looking at the earthquake headlines of the USGS, since 2003 the number has dropped there, but that may be just because the standards that they use for a headlining quake have changed. I would expect though, that the number per year fluctuates on a cycle, like most natural things do, though I could be wrong. Despite however insightful my posts may be, I'm no Geophysicist/geologist etc.

Anyway:

Magnitude 5.8 - NEW BRITAIN REGION, PAPUA NEW GUINEA
2007 May 18 23:11:40 UTC
Depth 33km

Magnitude 5.7 - NEW BRITAIN REGION, PAPUA NEW GUINEA
2007 May 18 23:11:26 UTC
Depth 35km

Magnitude 1.5 - MOUNT RAINIER AREA, WASHINGTON
2007 May 19 00:23:51 UTC
Depth 0.7km
(seems to be a quake near the summit)
