Strange creature in my bathroom

When I was younger, maybe 10 or 11 years old, I had a weird experience that I still can't explain.
During the nighttime hours I was preparing to take a shower in my basement bathroom (I was always scared to go in the basement by myself). I usually used my bathroom upstairs but it was occupied, so I had no choice but to use the other bathroom which I always hated.

I proceded to wash myself in the shower (which only took about 10 minutes). A moment later I began to hear a "clicking" noise, a sound I never heard before in that bathroom. I look around, trying to pinpoint where the noise was coming from. I then look at the bottom of the drain in the shower, & I see a very weird "creature"-type thing, snapping its mouth at the entrance of the shower drain! It was white-ish in color, & very small (I would say about 3 inches, but I could only see the mouth so I couldn't determine how big the actual thing was).

It seemed as if it was trying to drink the water from the shower, as it was constantly snapping its mouth at me. It had small teeth, the best I could describe it as having the mouth of a crocodile, but much much smaller.
After staring in shock at this thing for a minute, I ran upstairs & told my mom what I had just seen. She sends my sister with me back downstairs to see for herself, but the creature was gone. To this day I have no idea what it was.

I couldn't have imagined it, I still remember that event (I'm 21 y/o now).

Any ideas on what it could've been?

Could it have been some kind of insect? Cockroach?

I've never heard of anything like that.

The crocs in the sewer thing is just an urban legend.

It wasn't a snake was it? I've seen a snake come up through someone's bath!

I don't think it was any type of insect, it seemed more like an animal. It could've been a snake, but its jaws were more "solid". It's hard to explain, I just remember seeing it have snout-like jaws with teeth all around the ridges. Its skin was white.

The constant snapping it was doing made it seem like it was a toy or something. It would pause for about 2 seconds in between snaps. The clicking noise was very distinctive. Every time I went down there afterwards I would look down the drain, but it never returned. It was very creepy!

Sounds like some kind of shrew or maybe a mutated rat gopher.
Thank your lucky stars that the drain cover kept the monster at bay and it didn't run up your leg and bite your naughty bits.

Iv'e had some strange creatures in my bathroom too; usually at my invitation.

Since this was down in the basement, Maybe it was a sewer rat. You said that it was very small? three inches and an alligator mouth? It may have been a young sewer rat who was trying to drink the water. But you said it had a long snout, so maybe it was a possum.
So it was very small? Could you draw it perhaps? If not I will and I'll post it up here for you.

I'm trying to think of what it could possibly be. A bat? Maybe it was a bat?

I know you said it was small, but you were looking down a drain, so it may have looked small to you. I'm betting it was either a sewer rat or a possum. But what would a possum be doing in the sewer. To wrestle with them gators! lmao

Sewer rats have been known to climb drains and enter a houses before so i guess it could be a rat.

Scorpions turn up all over in the Phoenix area. Never heard of one in NY though if that's where it happened.

The description almost sounds like the claw of a white scorpion.

Do you think you could draw a picture of what you saw and post it. It seems you have artistic talent by your avatar. It is worth a try, and then save as a gif or jpg. It sounds really interesting.

I wish I had artistic talent. I have vivid memories of events like they were just yesterday, and I didn't have a digital camera, or any means of recording the events, although I would and still do log them down in a diary.

Now with digital technology I record anything that appears interesting with my camera and that way I have the evidence of anything unusual I encounter. I wish digital technology was available in the 70's and 80's. I felt technology was primitive back then and wasn't good enough to log events like tehnology today.

I believe you saw something you couldn't explain, but if you could draw it and put it on ATS then maybe somebody will be able to recognise rather than speculate as to what the creature was in your shower.

Was it during the holiday season? Maybe Mr. Hankey was visiting?

In all seriousness, it sounds like a rodent. NYC is their habitat and the sewer system is loaded with them.

Could it have been a baby Loch Ness Monster?

Most likely, as said above, it could be a White Scorpion.

Sorry it took so long, but I finally drew up some pictures:

Here's my bathroom. As you can see, pretty normal & isolated (I added a little grey alien sitting on the cabinet just for kicks, heh).

Here's what the creature actually looked like (from my perspective). I don't think it was a scorpion, as it had a mouth full of teeth as opposed to claws. It might've had eyes.

What was weird about the whole thing was that during my shower, I didn't notice anything creeping up from the drain (then again, it was pretty loud in the shower from the water so maybe I just didn't hear it crawl up). It didn't have any hair or fur or anything, so I also doubt it was a rat or mouse. It was definately something I've never seen before.

What do you guys think?

Could it be an undiscovered species of albino snake in your drain?

Well, I have seen some pretty strange things down in the drain. However, I am leaning towards this being a figment of your imagination. I mean, you already stated that you were somewhat timid of the basement bathroom, you might have just worked your mind into a frenzy and concocted the image.

I think rat is the most likely culprit. As for it not having fur, The hair on a rats snout is fine, and lays pretty flat. If the rat was wet from the drain, it might have appeared to be hairless. You also can't rule out that minor details about this might be altered in your memory, due to your age at the time, your fear of said bathroom, and because the mind can be a b*tch like that sometimes.
