After searching thru ATS I don't think anybody has talked about this yet,or at least not too often.
But I'll post anyway:Yes the ATS motto is to "Deny Ignorance",but I'm not so sure if that's enough to encourage members to think that "Ignorance is useless,I MUST deny it".I think it's because there's little inspiration and/or encouragement to do so.
*But in some cases ignorance CAN be useful, for example:My dad is sick and has just puked in the tiolet, the tiolet is broken so it can't be flushed.Would I want to look in the tiolet? No way!!
*Yet in some cases ignorance CAN be useless, for example:I've decided to look in the tiolet anyway just out of curiousity and found out there were large traces of alcohol in the tiolet. So I thought if my dad buys more alcohol, then I could hide the alcohol somewhere and/or maybe help him deal with his alcoholism so my dad won't puke again.
So tell me if I were to remain ignorant, would I be able to help my dad & be more aware of his alcoholism?

You can see the ups & downs of ignorance, but ATS isn't about alcohol(unless you listen to the "ATS Review Podcasts" for the first few minutes),it's about conspiracies, mysteries & other topics.
Denying ignorance on ATS can be quite difficult, like the alcohol example, but if you do deny ignorance then you might find out that it can be quite beneficial in the future.

I really hope this^^ inspires others to "Deny Ignorance",but I doubt that's enough.
Can anybody else here post something the inspires members to "Deny Ignorance"?
What about the "Writers" can you guys/gals inspire as well?

Not being able to see posts? It would really help if you'd elaborate.

well i only see the thread title but no post from the op. the first post i see is the reply i made. it isnt the first time its happened either but im not sure if its a firefox problem or an ats one. i mentioned it in the thread for ats problems when it happened before but never heard back from anyone as to whether they could see anything or not. however i have seen another thread where another member had the same problem and you only see anything by replying to the thread - but you don't see the original post

this thread was not started by " JUSTYC" but was infact started by " TORMENTOR " , who has since managed to earn an " global ignore " meaning that all his / her posts become invisible to none staff .

but as they authored this thread - the title and link still appear on the BBQ page - and is clickable - but the actuall post is invisible

it is a wierd abberation of the global ignore settings .

hope that explains

ahh thanks for the explanation ignorant_ape. is there anyway that it can mention that the poster is on global ignore so as not to confuse us poor members when they click on a post like that?

WHAT???I'm on global ignore???How did that happen?Staff members,I could use your help. This could be a bug.

Wow I totally missed the meaning of that, sorry OP.

It would be cool maybe if some of the writers made little parables of a sort, to show why denying ignorance is so much better than going along with it. But don't you think ignorance is being denied around here a good bit?

I'd venture to say probably not. From my experience, the staff doesn't like to make a public issue of global ignores, post bans and so on. So, if you see a member has made a post but you can see it (and YOU don't have this member on ignore) just assume it's a global ignore situation.

That's what I do.

FYI I should be free from global ignore by now.
Anyway, yeah I do think there are people who are still denying ignorance, but I'm not sure if they have enough motivation to do so.

There are others who don't have a problem with ignorance though, but they could be facing more consequences in the future than the members who DO deny ignorance.
Anybody here willing to motivate others as well?

Ah, the Old Deny Ignorance, Ignorance is Bliss, Defeat Ignorance debate.

My experience in life as well as ATS, has always been that Ignorance like Beauty usually resides in the eye of the beholder.

Typically an opinion that is diametrically opposite another's here on ATS, can be labeled ignorant. And frequently is. All when the only thing ignorant, is the inability to fathom another mind, of equal intellect, possessing an opinion that may be contrary to ones beliefs.

So what is ignorance?

I know and understand the definition as the esteemed Mr. Webster displays it, yet in the context of ATS, would it not be better described as an inability to accept? To accept another view? Not necessarily to endorse or adopt that view point. simply to accept it as valid in another's eyes.

Interesting thread here..

If you were to remain ignorant to your father's alcoholism, you would be left in the dark to his disease. You would not be aware of his struggles and be an enabler. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge. Knowledge is power. We are here to Deny Ignorance by providing knowledge to those who lack it. All the while keeping in mind that our Perception is our reality. What I perceive and you perceive are two equally different things. Neither of us have the right to criticize one another on our beliefs. We merely inherit the right to attempt to "educate" one another, which in turn, would Deny Ignorance.

Ignorance can be a pain in the arse, I agree. But it is like a human emotion. If you never go through bad times, how can you appreciate the good times? If you never come across some ignorance, how can you appreciate brilliance?

Deny Ignorance through reasoning, through open-mindedness, through asking questions and not taking what is in front of your eyes for granted. Ignorance is one hemroid that I am willing to endure from time to time.

Why does a simply tagline, slogan, catchphrase, or motto get so much analysis anyway?

People don't seem to break these down like they do Deny Ignorance:
Just do it!
Can you hear me now?
Let your fingers do the walking.
Must See TV

In fact, go here and get tons of them.

The NBC motto is to "Must See TV", but I'm not so sure if that's enough to encourage people to think "I must watch tv".

In some cases watching tv CAN be useful,

Yet in some cases watching tv CAN be useless

The words "Deny" and "Ignorance" can have different meanings, depending on other people's perspective.I think "Deny Ignorance" is a cool motto,IMO.Perhaps some want to analyse something cool.

Anything can have a different meaning depending on perspective.

And yes, we all appreciate that we're cool. Wait...did you say all of ATS is cool or the motto is cool. Ah whatever.

ATS is way cool!

I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

At least while I'm on the 'net.
