British scientists are on the verge of producing flu vaccine that works against all major types of the disease. It would protect against all strains
of influenza A - the virus behind both bird flu and the yearly winter flu. A few injections could give long-lasting immunity. No more yearly
injections that may, or may not, be a hit on that years virus.
The Cambridge biotech firm Acambis, along with Belgian researchers came up with the injection. The vaccine will be tested on humans for the first
time in the next few months. Also, a Swiss vaccine firm Cytos Biotechnology, could also be tested on people in 2007. The vaccines could be on the
market in around five years.
