I ain't scared 'a no anonymous postings!

SO and Springer, I see there is a link on the main ATS page to the anon posts. Is there any plan to have a button or link on MyATS page? That's where I open to and I very rarely go to the main ATS page, but instead I navigate the board from MyATS.

I know there's a banner about it now, but that's just temporary, I'm sure.

Any plans for a link on MyATS?

Why would anyone else want to join if they can post anyway?

Because the services are extensive. Even with Anon posting, membership is the way to go. Look at all the benefits we enjoy.

i think my only opposition to the anon posts is the part where SO talks about blocking an IP addy. please, please, be careful with that. some of us spend about half of our time here on ATS logged on from work. i dont know about everyone else, but our computers in the break lounge all use the same IP. therefore, if you block the IP, nobody from that site can access it. if you have one prankster who sees "conspiracy site" on the history and decides to have some fun, it screws the real ATS member. whereas in the past he or she would have to know the username and password to be able to cause any mischief, now all they have to do is go to the anon page.

just something to keep in mind.

Which is exactly why anonymous posts do not appear in threads.

Is there any chance that if a person posts an anonymous to a specific thread, that it will leave some sort of tag on it? So you can click on it and go read it if you want? I imagine that the thread of anon posts is going to get huge and it will be difficult to trudge through them all just to see if someone has posted about it (a specific thread).

Have you guys thought about this at all? It sounds like it could be a pain to code in though...

I never said any such thing.

We're legally required to record a poster's IP... we're just not recording it within the posts database table... then encrypting it.

Please note. The IP addresses of anonymous posters are retained and encrypted separate from your posts. We are legally required to retain the IP address of posters. This method ensures we meet that requirement while keeping your IP absolutely private and secure. If you post abusive or personal information, we may review the originating IP and block access to the domain.

That's always been the case... but there's nothing specific to the anonymous posting.

So even though the IP isn't stored in the same table there must be a foreign key linking it back to the post, or it's just assured they are both in the same order?

Anyway, it's not really anonymous if you post something truly shocking and the government wants to investigate.

Or if you're just a # and you need to be banned.

My question was valid, it may have been worded badly 'cos like Im sick *blows nose to prove a point*

Will we ever see some sort of link on a thread to indicate that an anon post has been made about it? Have you guys thought about it? Is it too difficult? Has it already been done and I aint seen it? Answer meeeee *thows a soggy tissue at the monitor*

Now that seems like a good suggestion! There are a lot of good posts in the anonymous forum, that may otherwise get overlooked.

Perhaps a button within the thread, that leads to a page that lists all anon posts that link to that particular thread.

Don't know how much trouble it would be to set that up though.

Hi there.

You have re-activated a very old thread (look at the date) that no longer applies.

Please add your ideas to this current thread on the new anonymous posting.
