Combative midfielder Nigel de Jong has issued a 'come-and-get-me' plea to Manchester United after admitting he is "very unhappy" at Ajax.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly sees the 20-year-old battler, who is out of contract with the Dutch giants in 2006, as the long-term successor to Red Devils skipper Roy Keane at Old Trafford. But he is said to have angered Ajax by lodging a 500,000 bid for de Jong after scouts watched him hit a wonder goal against Feyenoord last month.

He's a great player and Fergie would be mad to miss out on him. He would be an ideal replacement for Keane as they say, maybe not long term as i think Keane is definatly getting past his sell-by date. So he would be playing sooner rather than later. Fergie definatly needs to replace some of them as they are not getting any younger...

i think he played against celtic years ago when we played Ajax in the qualifying stage of the champions league.

a 500'000k bid does sound cheeky if the guy is class and i guess after the missed out on Robben, they dont want the same thing to happen again
