Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has signed a new contract which keeps him at the club for the next three years.
The 22-year-old had one year to run on his current deal with the Blues and celebrated the new arrangement with a goal in his side's 7-1 Carling Cup
win over Barnsley on Tuesday.
"There was speculation that I would move from this club but I have stated that I want to stay here and be part of a successful Manchester City and
hopefully we can get that," Barton told the club's official website, www.mcfc.co.uk.
Barton got into trouble with manager Kevin Keegan at the end of last season when he stormed out of Eastlands after being dropped for the game against
Southampton.
