Claude Makelele has committed himself to Chelsea for the rest of his career after signing a new contract.

The 32-year-old has proved to be a key component of the Chelsea side that has claimed a domestic double this season, and should now see out his playing days at Stamford Bridge.

A tremendous season for the former French international was capped as he scored his first goal for four years as The Blues beat Charlton 1-0 to spark their Premiership celebrations.

i never quite realised that was his first goal in four years.

i think its good news for chelsea, he is mr reliable and does a superb job at holding the midfield together and guarding the defense, Real where daft to let him go.

IMO when he left, that what hurt them most when they turned rubbish.

Not the most creative or technial player but sure does his job

Yep, like Gilberto at Arsenal when he came back was it a coincidence the team looked more solid and started winning more games

yip, i gotta admit i like gilberto as a player, he is more of a goal threat though.

with makelele signing a new contract, is that going to end the talk of gerrard coming to chelsea?

Gerrard is not being bought to play in the holding role, he would play alongside Lampard in the midfield two.

Makelele has been great for Chelski, everyone at Madrid was gutted when they sold him. Another great signing by Ranieri.

Makelele didn't look that great when he first went there, but he just looks better the more he plays. I was a bit amazed that it was his first goal in four years aswell..

do we know why Real sold him in the first place? ánd at the start there was alot of shuffling going on but hes really made it his own now, and i think this contract is going to help cement his place

Madrid has agreed a fee and contract with Arsenals lanky Pat but he failed a medical, they sold Claude before this happened.
