Aston Villa boss David O'Leary has ruled out a move for Blackburn striker Dwight Yorke.

O'Leary laughed off reports suggesting the forward, who scored 97 goals in 247 games for Villa between 1989 and 1998, was on his way to the club.

I think anyone would laugh off the prospect of signing Yorke, if they wanted to be taken seriously as a side anyway. Who'd want a complete waste of space like that if you're struggling or have high ambition? I'm sure West Ham might want him...

He he

Yeah we did want him about 2 years ago, but i don't think they would go after him now.

What cracks me up though is how the hell did he pull Jordan? He looks like quark out of star trek lol!

wait.... It was WestHam who bought Yorke for 100,000. He then made the transfer to ManU for a few million.

Ermmm i don't think so.

Man U bought him from Aston Villa in the first place for about 10 million or whatever it was. Then he went to Blackburn and then Villa bought him back again.

Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel will miss the start of the season after a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

The Colombian international will return early from Villa's pre-season tour in Norway but manager David O'Leary is confident that surgery will not be required.

Aston Villa have finally begun talks with Nantes over the possible transfer of Mathieu Berson. Villa boss David O'Leary has been tracking the talented midfielder over the course of the summer but has been frustrated in his attempts to begin talks.

The French outfit are reluctant to lose one of their prized assets but with the player out of contract next summer, it seems he may now be granted his wish of a move to England.

Mathieu Berson is expected to sign for Aston Villa within days after Nantes apparently gave up hope of holding on to the midfielder.

Nantes president Jean-Luc Gripond said: "We cannot prevent a player leaving if they want to go. The deal could happen in midweek."

Berson, 24, has already stated that he wants to join David O'Leary's side.
