I think it all depends on who he wants to sign and how much they will cost as to who will go. He was saying in the paper today on how the crop of young players he has are the stars of the future and will come good next season and the one after. It may be a cop out in making any major signings by saying the youngsters are good enough..

They lack squad depth in wide areas though so he could fit in, most of those players above play through the middle.

Robert Pires has indicated that he would be open to a move to Portuguese outfit Benfica.

The Arsenal star is out of contract at the end of next season, and has been disappointed with the club's insistence at keeping to their policy of only offering one-year deals to those players over 30 years of age.

The mercurial French winger has again enjoyed an impressive season, and, even though Jose Antonio Reyes has encroached into his starting berth at times, has still bagged a remarkable 14 Premiership goals.

he saying his dad is portugese and might be a benfica fan? and cos of that, it would be like a 2nd home after france possibly, i aint sure if he was brought up in portugal or france.

he said about inter and barcelona being linked too, and saying hes flattered basically,

to me, i think hes really amazed at the clubs that are in for him, but i reckon he will stay

Robert Pires has admitted that he has been contacted by other clubs.

The 31-year-old has just 12 months left on his current deal and talks over fresh terms have been progressing slowly.

Pires wants two additional years, but Arsenal are yet to strike a deal.

For a player that can still do it at the top level Benfica is not where I'd see him going.

Talks between Arsenal and Robert Pires have reportedly stalled as the two parties struggle to find a mutual agreement. The talented Frenchman is hankering over a two-year extension but thus far, Arsene Wenger has being willing only to discuss a further 12 months. Pires, 32-years-old, is keen for one final payday and the security of another two years in North London - however, Arsenal are notoriously cautious with players over 30.

yer. it sounds like he want 2 year, and arsenal do it all the time, they say no, you can have 12 months and see after that. and i think they are right.

berkgamp does it, and other players have done it. why should Pires be an exception?

Maybe he wants something more concrete as he is nearing the end of his career. You can't blame him for wanting that little bit more, it might be the last big deal he will get. Thing is if Arsenal keep stalling and won't give him more than a year deal, he could be off like a shot. There will be plenty of clubs willing to sign him and it would be a blow for Arsenal.

True, two years gives him security, I really don't know what will happen with this one.

yer, if the lose him though. it really does give them a reason to go for Wright Phillips.

I think Bergkamp, he took a while to sign, but he did it eventually. and i think Pires will too.

Could be, I don't think he will be going this summer for some reason, maybe Wright-Phillips will move next summer, World Cup as well.

How long has this been going on?

They are going to sit down and discuss it in the next few weeks but they are only offering a 1 year deal and he wants 2 years. He is what 32 now and i don't think a 2 year deal is unreasonable. He cost 6million when they bought him 5 years ago and has been great for them. They lost Viera and don't look like the same side and to lose Pires would be a step back aswell..

am sure i read the other day he says hes happy to take a wage drop if it ensures his stay at Arsenal.

With Henry looking like hes going to stay, the time getting back on form i think he will be around too
