Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has accepted Craig Bellamy's apology after their training ground bust-up - but warned the striker he has to play by his rules.

Bellamy had earlier attempted to clear the air after his dispute with Souness, which was sparked by his reaction to being substituted in the draw at Charlton on Sunday.

And Souness on Thursday accepted Bellamy's apology, while warning that he does not expect a repeat of such behaviour.

The Scot said: "We're a club filled with good players. Sometimes people get bashed up and you have to deal with it.

"I'm not happy with his reaction at being substituted and I've pointed out what I want from him and the rest of the group - and I don't expect it to happen again."

Souness added: "I don't have to go into or explain my reason for substituting him.

The showdown between manager and player took place at the club's training headquarters on Tuesday a matter of hours before the Magpies party flew out to Greece for tonight's UEFA Cup game against Panionios.

Souness was furious at Bellamy's reaction to being substituted and let him know as he reminded his squad of their responsibilities on and off the pitch.

The Scot has confirmed he is set to start Bellamy alongside skipper Alan Shearer as Newcastle attempt to launch the group stage with a victory, and he is desperate to rebuild his relationship with the club's fans after another flashpoint led to suggestions that he could be offloaded.
