Gareth Southgate may have resigned himself to the fact his England career is over, but he firmly believes Middlesbrough team-mate Chris Riggott has
the necessary credentials to step onto the international stage.
Boro captain Southgate has been joined at the heart of defence for the majority of this season by Riggott due to regular partner Ugo Ehiogu having
suffered with a calf injury.
Riggott, whose chances have been limited since he moved to the Riverside from Derby in the summer of 2002, has taken this latest opportunity with both
hands.
The 24-year-old was outstanding in Saturday's 2-1 win at Charlton as he and Southgate formed a formidable line-up, and the experienced 34-year-old is
certainly relishing the youthful influence which in part is helping him stay on top of his game.
