Southampton are considering moves for Danijel Ljuboja and Nicola Legrottaglie but could face competition from Aston Villa for the Juventus defender.
Paris Saint Germain striker Ljuboja is the latest player to have been linked with Southampton as new manager Harry Redknapp plots a way to keep the club in The Premiership.
With James Beattie having been sold to Everton and top scorer Kevin Phillips interesting Villa, Redknapp is likely to add to his strike-force during the transfer window.
Reports suggest he will now move for unsettled PSG forward Ljuboja, who has been at loggerheads with coach Vahid Halilhodzic for much of the season.
He has been linked with Barcelona and Malaga but now Saints are weighing up a bid to take the Serbia & Montenegro international on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Ljuboja's agent admitted earlier in the week that he expects the hit-man to stay at Parc des Princes but renewed interest could prompt a change in stance.
Meanwhile, Saints and Villa are rumoured to be vying for the right to snare the services of Italy international Legrottaglie.
The Juventus stopper has been on the periphery at Stadio Delle Alpi this term and is already reported to have rejected a move to The Premiership with West Brom.
But speculation now suggests that Villa and Saints are keen on the former Chievo Verona ace, who seems likely to leave Juventus this month.
