Norwich's Gary Holt has confessed that he thought he might die as two-and-a-half litres of blood were drained from his chest.
Holt was rushed in for an emergency procedure after it was discovered that he had a haemothorax.
"It was traumatic," said Holt, "I thought I was dying.
"It started when I took a knock in the Charlton game and came to a head after we played Birmingham.
"I got on the team bus home but after a while it had to pull over because I thought I was going to be sick.
"The chairman was behind us in his car so I got in with him and told him to take me home as quickly as possible.
"I was in a lot of pain and keeled over in the bedroom. I wondered what the hell was happening.
"When the doctors found there was blood in my chest cavity there was no messing. They put a drain inside it."
