Stan Lazaridis is being lined up to make his comeback after the international break.
The versatile Australian international has been sidelined for far longer than anyone had imagined after he damaged his thigh during the 1-0 win
against Manchester City on August 24.
Birmingham had hoped that he would be back in action in just a few days but that absence has stretched to weeks.
Steve Bruce has admitted that he is still unsure just when Lazaridis will be fit to return.
But Bruce is optimistic that it will be some time this month and possibly when Birmingham return to action following the latest round of World Cup
qualifiers.
That would be the attractive home game against Manchester United on October 16.
Bruce said: "It is now six weeks since Stan picked up his injury.
"Obviously, the injury was more serious than we first thought. Usually if it is a strain it is two to three weeks and now we have to be a bit more
patient. Maybe in another two weeks he could be back."
