Boss Iain Dowie admitted his relief after Crystal Palace grabbed their first Premiership win of the season.
Dowie also singled out Andy Johnson for special praise after the striker scored to set Palace on their way to a 2-0 victory over London rivals Fulham.
"We'd take any kind of win. The first one's the most important," he said.
"Johnson is quick, strong, brave and he's going to get goals. I rate him as highly as anyone outside maybe three or four in the Premiership."
The win lifted Palace off the foot of the Premiership table and assistant boss Kit Symons added: "It is great to be off the bottom of the Premiership.
