Cuban Odlanier Solis got his Olympic heavyweight boxing title bid off to a perfect start, ousting Russian rival Alexander Alekseev in the first round.
The 24-year-old's mixture of speed and accurate punches saw the judges hand him the bout 24-21.
Alekseev gave Solis a tight battle up until the fourth round but he failed to press home his height advantage.
Solis's defensive tactics paid off and he now has the title in his sights: "My only aim is the gold medal," he said.
