Unless both combatants become overnight conscientious objectors to the thought of two men climbing into a squared circle and engaging in a prizefight, the WBO lightweight title match-up between Acelino Freitas and Diego Corrales, Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut, August 7, will be the fight of the year (photo by Tom Casino).
"Perhaps the fight of the decade," according to the challenger's promoter Gary Shaw.
Corrales thinks so, too. The former IBF and reigning WBO super-featherweight champion told SecondsOut: "This is a huge, huge fight for me. This has a different appeal to the other big fights I've had with Floyd Mayweather and the two fights with Joel Casamayor because this is two of the biggest punchers, pound-for-pound, in the world going at it. This is going to be an awesome fight, and the fans all know it!"
