Broadway Boxing: Sensational! Plus Bonus Rumor (You may not believe this!)
By Scoop Malinowski
Broadway Boxing at the Manhattan Center, Thursday June 24, 2004. One insider called it "The best local boxing series in America," and I concur. Hands down, Lou DiBella's creation (like his Boxing After Dark series at HBO) is one of the best things about boxing today.
Last night the action, crowd energy and presence of so many celebrities really made it a night to remember.
17-1 junior welter Michael Warrick of Landover, MD won a narrow decision over 17-1 Bronx prospect Jeff Resto. Both fought their hearts out in a fight of the year candidate. Resto, with DiBella as his promoter, has taken his knocks after losing his last fight - some even called Resto a quitter - but he disproved that label. It was a close loss but Resto is not finished in boxing, not with his tall and rangy TV style and lionheart determination.
